Fog lights on a 3rd gen (non-OEM)
OK guys,
I'm looking for a little more light on my '99. I was wondering if anybody had tried to mound some small fog/driving lights in the gap of the spaces on the lower valence (I don't want those purple, little dot lights, those don't do much for me). I'm thinking of going with what I used on my 2nd gen's ARB...the Hella FF75/55.

I think the FF75 would be better suited for the tight spaces. Has anybody done something similar? How hard is it to mount these to the valence? Just simply remove it, drill the holes and wire em up? What other kinds of lights have you used?
Thanks guys!
Fink

You get what you pay for.
I like seeing the people who buy the el cheapo blue or yellow lights with plastic covers and they melt if on for too long.
Gadget has/had them. http://www.gadgetonline.com/light.htm
Some cool reading.

Those look pretty nice...sounds like I just need to take some measurements, decide on a budget and then go for it.
Thanks for the links man, if anybody has any of their opinions on lights for the bumper or ones that you have installed..post away!

4X4Fink,
I made a few cuts to my lower valence and mounted a set of Piaa 1000X lights in there. They're great!!! Just remember, measure twice (maybe even three times) and cut once. Here's a pic...

Thanks dude. The freakin bumper looks terrible. I've got spots all over it where bugs have eaten into the paint, but I don't feel like dropping the cash on it and having it repainted when it's just going to happen again. Other than that, I'm pretty satisfied.

Yeah its a good looking 3rd gen for sure. For some reason, those tiny little lights like that don't do much for me...they just look too...weak or something, I'm not sure, it's hard to explain.
They do look good with the turn signals and the other lights up top on the brushguard...not sure how they would look on mine.

Wow, I totally forgot I had this thread on here!
Haha...OK, I'm back to wanting to add some more light to the runner. I really like Hella FF75's as I stated in the beginning and I think I can get them to fit with some trimming.
However, I'm not sure how I would be able to get in the valence enough to drill holes. I could come at it from an angle I guess but I'm not sure how well that would work.
The measurements for the FF75's are 2 1/8"H x 6 1/8"W x 3 13/16"D
I could easily fit them height-wise, LSUMatt what did you use to cut the valence? Dremel? How did you get in there far enough to drill the mounting holes?
Thanks man!

I used a small hacksaw blade wrapped in an old t-shirt to make the cuts. I believe I did use a dremel on the top and bottom too smooth it out a bit. Then I had it painted. I didn't use a drill at all to mount the lights. I used a couple of small double sided adhesive squares to hold each light in place and then just screwed them in. The whole process took a couple of hours, but the results speak for themselves. Just remember to measure several times before you make any cuts. I priced a valence panel before I did it just to see how much in case I did screw up. It was like $250. Make sure you're right before you cut anything.
