Beckson 4" Screwout Deckplate, all black, #DP40-B
6 stainless steel #8 panhead screws, 1/2" in legnth
Sensor-Safe Silicon Sealant, Permatex #598B UltraBlack Hi-Temp
Screen, black, cut to approx 5" circular shape
Adjustable hose clamp, 2.5"-5.5" diameter you can find them at pretty much any marine or boat shop.

could always build your own. Thats what I'm doing. Its only going to cost me the money for a cone filter, all the materials I need are at hand.

Why bother to put a deckplate in? Cut the hole and go. The deckplate doesn't add to performance, the hole does. (I know, I know, looks neater...)
The FIPK (and all the other brands of the same thing) and off-roading don't work well together. Water and mud don't belong all over your filter. Even on street only rigs if you live where it rains a lot the FIPK is a questionable idea IMHO.

I'm not really looking into driving in waist deep mud, maybe a trail or two but I'm mostly driving to a club or to work so the cone & heat sheild do me well. If I was to go mudding I think I'd re-consider a cone filter. All depends on whatcha wanna do I guess.

I really wanted the K&N Kit, but after seeing that review in the link that has been posted a few times on this thread, I've pretty much thrown the whole idea out. It would be great to see a good review and maybe some dyno tests for the kit. Just that review is pretty straightforward and I'll believe it until I see some proof otherwise.

you can go to any sporting goods store that carries boat supplies and they'll have deckplates too. The Academy Sports near my house has then but they are white. it's going to get dirty under the hood and I don't plan on entering it into any shows so who cares, black white green yellow, they all do the same thing.

i have a 4cylinder 97 runner, is it possible to do the deckplate mod on top of the box, or can i do it on the bottom since the front is too irregularly shaped to mess with.

thanks i actually looked at it closer right now, and there is room, but did you have any problem sealing the deckplate since the front has ridges?

i got the fipk. Its really not worth the money but it looks good, sounds better, and is a little faster. not sure about gas mileage yet. If i didnt care, I would just leave it alone.

I bought on of these cheap Cone filters from ebay for about 20 bucks. Came with the cone and the adapter. Just unbold the factory airbox and bolt this one on.
BIG Differance in Power, plus it has had deep Throaty sound to it. a slight MPG Gain and better responce when I pegg the pedal.
Best mod for price I've done yet !

do you have any problems with water getting in the airbox with normal driving? Or does the airbox have a plate that sheilds the filter? I use OEM filters, not even considering AMSOIL or K&N after seeing the tests from the Diesel guy in RI.
I am removing the elbow first to see if I get a bit more response...
