Finally got some steelies!

Well, after vasillating back and forth between getting black steelies and just painting my stockers, I got a deal on a set of black steelies, just what I was looking for (Thanks again, Chris!). When I took them to get mounted, I told them specifically NOT to put in the chrome center caps, and they did anyway. Unfortunately, when I went to pick it up, I didn't have the time to wait for them to take them back out. I took a pic and played with it, and to be honest, I kinda like both. I'm leaning more towards the all black look, but the chrome in the middle isn't TOO bad. I still think I'm just gonna paint 'em. But anyway, I'm way stoked. The extra weight isn't noticeable at all, and the little bit of extra backspacing looks much better in my opinion. My mod money's pretty much tapped for the next couple of months, but I think it's totally worth it. The truck looks way tougher. In a few months, I'll get to the "Herc mod" or "Northfacer mod" (whichever you prefer...)

Here's with chrome:

And presto! It's gone!

Both look good, but I am leaning towards the all black look. Give your wheel weights alittle black too . LOOKS GOOD.

Yeah, the weights need some color... You would think that with the popularity of black wheels right now they would make black weights! No biggie. Nothing a bit of paint can't fix. After looking at it some more, I am def. gonna paint those center caps.

I heard that you can get some type of beanbag that goes inside the tire, once up to speed the small bags of sand go to the unbalanced area of the tire, elliminating the need for weights.

Good luck with the caps... It will look great all black. I just refurbed my center caps to match.

I remember that thread... I think it turned to a flamefest. I don't remember though.

Looks cool CJ!
I tried to get some 15" steels last tire change but they didn't clear the calipers

Yeah, that was the prob. I ran into. A friend was gonna sell me his 15" steels for way cheepy, but alas, the calipers were too big. The bummer is that extra inch makes for several more dollars and tougher to find. Summit sells the Cragar Soft 8's in 16", but only in 5" BS, and I wanted less than than. These are 16", 4" bs. Just right. I was def. stoked. Once I get the centers taken care of, it will be perfect. And as far as the red and blue stripe...I kinda like it. It looks a bit different than all the other black wheels out there. Kinda sets it off. (Either that, or I'm trying to convince myself that it's not worth the ton of work it would be to get them off and have the wheels still look good. ) But I am definitely noticing a growing aversion to chrome on my truck. It's funny. I like chrome on certain Tacomas, but on mine, I really like the idea of dechroming almost everything. I dunno. It's a disease, I think. I caught it here on YotaTech.

I did, and it looks way better. If anything, I am going to paint them black and put them back on, but untill I do, they stay off. I also painted the weights. You would think with the growing popularity of black wheels they would have black weights, but I guess not. Oh well. I really dig the look on my truck. The more I look at it the more I like it.

I just finally painted my weights yesterday too.

They look better now !

One wheel had literally 1/2 of it covered in a line of weights.

Oh, man am I stoked about it! By far my most favoritest mod to my truck... (well, the grey wire mod was pretty cool.... ) I'm happy about the extra inch of backspacing too, I like how it widens it a little without messing with the "stuffability"...

I'm working on it... My wife's gotta moratorium on mods for the month (or two... ) I'm planning on doing the "Herc" mod, and a couple other things in the future... With a growing family and one income, the truck def. takes a backseat more often than not... But it's getting there.

- Christian, I know you painted your nuts (uh....yeah....um, awkward). How have they held up? Do you just touch them up them periodically?
