Electrical Paranoia, 2003 Tacoma
Hi All,
We just bought a 2003 Tacoma SR5 TRD, and are getting custom tube bumpers, rocker guards, etc. done at a fabrication shop here in Colorado. We want to mount a bunch of extra light on the new bumpers
The counter man at the dealership made it sound like doing much work on the electrical system would risk a non-waranty burn of the whole computer and wiring system. Should I be this paranoic?
Also, does anyone know if there is already at least one built-in circuit for fog lights, or more?
Thanks for your help, nice forums here!
'best, Lou

Lou:
Most likely the lights you'll add will have it's own aftermarket wiring harness. Therefore you shouldn't have any problems. The only problem that you might run into is that you'll be draining alot of power off the battery but I highly doubt that unless you're lighting an actual stadium!
If you need some major extra circuits then try getting one of these, but it's not required.

look at the 7 circuit ruse block.
If you're just wiring up 2-4 additional lights, then just use the wiring harness that comes with the lights and you should be fine. Just install it as the installation says and you should be fine. If you have any questions, just give us some more info on what kind of lights you're planning to install and we should be able to help you out

Thanks! That's good info! Here is one of the more technical things we'd like to do with lighting, and don't even know if it's possible:
We're planning on tapping in to the backup light circuit and adding an extra couple of backup lights, no problem there, I assume.
But, we'd also like to be able to turn all the backup lights on from a dash switch (for attaching trailer, setting up camp, etc.) Possible to wire this way? Anyone know how?
