Hmm. I do like the flexibility of the stock tube, it allows for the throttle body spacer which I am getting next week. And we all know the TB spacer adds 20HP.

Seriously, I am getting the spacer, and I will do a write up on it. Whether or not people like, I dont really care. I had it on my 98 and loved it.

My point is that this cool looking intake tube may not allow for the extra 1" needed for the spacer. Just a thought.

I have the helix throttle body spacer. I was thinking about keeping some of the rubber stock tube on either end, and using flexible plumbing couplings to connect the tube in between- probably still alot cheaper than the Volant set-up

Yeah, I am actually surprised there aren't more people concentrating some custom fabrication on the intake piping itself. Maybe we can start a trend.

Doesnt Volant make ski's anyway?

This is probably drifting off topic, but it still has to do with the intake...

These guys make a killing off selling a bit of pipe, so it'd be great to get an easy fabricatoin written.

I just went ahead and did it on my '91 3.0 and I am very happy with it, there is a lot more low end torque then before.

You should find better throttle response down low as well. With the silencers gone, there's less volume to fill up with air before heading for the manifold. So when you jump on it, the response ends up being quicker.

It's a great bang-for-the-buck mod. Coupled with the deckplate, it's THE bang-for-the-buck mod!

Just out of curiosity, where do all the 3.0 people put the deckplate mod? on the bottom?

He might have been talking about the 3.4, not the 3.0. I dont think there is a deckplate mod for the 3.0.

b/c most people with a K&N or similar intake system arent reporting HUGE gains. with the silencer removed, the intake is fairly straight and pretty non-restrictive.

i would concentrate on being able to suck in cold air rather than hot, that would prob give you most the performance gain yet.

just my pennies...

Well then, it's time to make one... i'll try to get around to it in the next couple of weeks. Take lots of pictures... assuming I am successful

And yes, my throttle response has improved greatly!

I posted this as an unrelated adendum on another thread, but I think it is worth posting here where it is pertinent to the topic.

I just finished doing the ISR mod. I sent pictures of the prototype to Dr.Z. since I have not figured out how to post pics here on the board yet. If he is able to receive them he is welcome to post them.

In essence, what I did was to get a 5-1/2” long piece of electrical grade PVC with a 2-1/2” ID. I measured in 3/4” on either end and shaved the tubing wall down about 1/8” and in from the end to that ¾” mark. I then beveled the inside wall from about 3/8” in out to the end so that the end thickness was about 1/16”. This was so that when the tube was installed the airflow would not hit a ‘step’ that would interrupt the airflow and create turbulence. The best way to machine the PVC pipe is to use a lathe, but since I didn’t have one I used my high-speed die grinder and a grinding stone. I made a jig and went to work.

I am not going to make any comments on observations at this time, BUT ...
1) Could throttle response be more immediate?
2) Could my in-gear at idle vacuum be up 1 IN Hg?
3) Could my acceleration be smoother?
4) Could my cruise vacuum pressure be up from 1- 2 In Hg?

What I will say is that the ISR pipe came out very well and fits perfectly. The main thing is that there must not be ANY air leaks at the connections.

BTW: Cost for this mod was ....
1 hour of my time ... the pipe was free.

What year/engine/make is your rig?

[edit] nevermind... You have it in your profile. I get this confused, but I think that you'll have trouble with the ISR mod on the 2003. You'll have to take a look at it and see what you think. There's also a good bit of info here... try searching for "2003 ISR" (no quotes) and see what pops up.

Talking ISR Mod

I Guess Thanks is in order for both Dr. Z and ManyMods. I did the ISR Mod today with the electrical conduit. I haven't noticed a significant power increase, but it is much louder. A lot louder than I expected. I will post when I have had a chance to drive it more.

In order to realize the full benefits of the mod, you really ought to do the DeckPlate and a free-flow exhaust in conjunction with the ISR.

I have had the deckplate and an Amsoil for quitea while now. The deckplate made a huge difference. Exhaust is next. Can I ask what you paid for yours? Can I order one on-line?

Go to: <http://www.beckson.com/index.shtml> to order the deckplate; it costs about $10.00. Get it in black with the clear screw-in cover.

For anyone who doesn't know it already , I have a TRD catback system for sale for the dual-cat exhausts. I want $400.00 plus shipping. It is in excellent condition with only 3700 miles of use. It has a side-exit stainless slantcut round tip.

Regarding the ISR, I painted the gray tube with Eastwood's black bumper paint. I wiped the exterior with acetone first to remove the sheen. Acetone will attack the plastic so be swift with your swiping.
