So as far as mounting brackets go I think it will work. The only difference I see is the battery stud is located in a different spot on the 2.7 than the 3.4. Will this cause I problem I don't know because I haven't seen a picture of where on the engine a 2.7's alternator is mounted.
But like I said all this is a educated guess.
On a side note this morning I started my 4runner and I hear a really loud knocking coming out from under the hood. I popped the hood and ran up front to see what the hell was going on with my 3.4
Well when I opened the hood to find out where the knocking was coming from, a jehovahs witness jumped out.
That was kinda like last night I had a horrible dream. I dreamed all night long I was a car muffler and that's why I woke up exhausted this morning

looking at that pic it is probably over current, what size wire is that?? at 115a you need about a #2 gauge . if thats the stock wire its probably getting too hot from the extra amps flowing. Definatly need to upgrade the wire from the alt to the battery. also if the connection was loose it will also get really hot so it could be either one. I am thinking on getting a cs144 upgrade.

The alternator wire is fused at the main fuse box some where around 110-120amps. For him to have pulled enough current to burn that wire like that he would have blown the fuse. Also unless he was running a roof full of a KC off-road lights and winching up a mountain I cannot see how he could put that kinda of continuous load on the cable.

well being an Electrician myself I see it all the time, mainly from loose connections. but it is possable that if the wire and connection are only sized for the stock 60A and you pull more it can overheat it with out blowing the fuse. if it shorted out and caused a instant high current then yea it probably would have blown the fuse. Looks like possibly a loose connection. thats why I need to know what size wire was on there to really know and also what kind of electrical load he has on his truck. we dont know if he was winching or not, but I was just making guess based on what I saw.

Sorry Cougar I didn't mean to come off sounding crappy. I'm having a bad couple of weeks. Due to it causing a irregular heartbeat my doctor is making me get off pain meds I've been on since I got hit by a car several years ago when I was working in law enforcement.

i think it was a loose connection causing resistance and overheating... because i remember the nut I used to hold down the main power wire didn't have a lock washer or any type of locking capabilities and I'm sure it was one of those things that I put on finger tight when i did the 2nd engine swap... i appreciate you guys helpin' me out with some answers on this topic!

So, where did you get the GM plug to use?
So, where did you get the GM plug to piggy back in? Junkyard? Parts store? I got me one of these babies and then realized I didn't have a plug. You did get a AC Delco-style plug from somewhere, right? I see a couple of different plug styles, so wasn't sure which was the right one...don't want to have to order twice if I can't find it local.
