I'm pretty sure that I want an M/T for one because of the aggressive look and two because I had A/T's on my old 2nd gen and they just kept gettin flats. Partly it's because of the road my parents live on, ALWAYS in bad shape (dirt road in the deep country of Arkansas) so I think M/T's will be necessary for that, my Dad has em on his truck and they work pretty well.

As far as sidewall strength, they are both 3-ply sidewall but I can see where the MT/R would be a little bit tougher in that region. When I had my BFG's on my old 2nd gen I never experience the type of chunks or gashes or anything like you're talking about...maybe just driving conditions were different, I'm not real sure.

I think I'll let this simmer in my head for awhile and see what I come up with, maybe I'll have an earth-shattering dream tonight and it will become clear which tire to go with...LoL, if only it were THAT easy.

Thanks for the help gents, NIGHT!

Alright here are some price comaprison's so you call can see what I'm lookin at:

SAM'S CLUB:

BFG Mud-Terrain KM 285/75R16, $212.88 + $9 (mount/balance/warranty)

$221.88 x 4 = $887.52

Goodyear Wrangler MT/R 285/75R16, $181.86 + $9 (mount/balance/warranty)

$190.86 x 4 = $763.44

What a decision to make, LoL. Maybe I'm putting too much thought into this but I just want to be sure I get the right ones...

Opinions, thoughts, concerns...

That's a pretty good deal on the MT/R's. I paid like $850 for the same tires.

I love how you're bypassing about 2 years of trial and error we 3rd gen owners have endured. But hey, at least now we can help steer someone in the right direction. I'd love to help anyone out there to mod a 4runner.. it's a cool feeling when you see other lifted 3rd gens going down the highway.

LoL, came into the game just at the right time my man!

More opinions would be great about the prices/tires listed about, I'm having a hard time steering away from my loyalty to BFG but these MT/R's have created quite a stir...

PS: I really do appreciate yours(ASU) and everyone elses help on here...lets all help out by paying back the man that started it all, who knows, if not for him, we would STILL be doing trial and error and most importantly, all our rigs would still be stock!!

UPDATE:

Just thought I would post what I have ordered and update you all on what was going on. Ordered front 3" Cornfed spacer with diff drop from Jason B., just ordered the OME 891 rear coils and OME N86SC shocks from Barb at Toyota of Dallas and now I am deciding on tires.

I have about 2 weeks or so to decide on them as my Runner will be going into the body shop on Monday for a complete repainting due to it being keyed about 2 weeks ago.

I would still like some more opinions on tires before I close the deal...right now I am leaning towards the BFG M/T's, my dad has them and loves them, I had them on my old 2nd gen and loved them and not to mention I think they look better than the MT/R's, not really a big factor but indeed a factor.

So if you guys could give me your input on the MT/R's versus the BFG's that would be great, those of you who haven't already obviously.

4x4 Fink let us know how it goes... I just put in an order from 4Crawler for a diff drop and decided to probally go with Toytec 2.5 inch front spacers. I too have the OME rear 891's. I also have a 2inch 4Crawler BL.

I am currently looking for shocks and still doing some pricing for some black rockcrawlers with some 285's.

Oh don't worry...I'm so pumped, spacers should be in tomorrow, shocks and coils should be in on Monday and rig should be out of the shop and with a makeover by T-Day or maybe a few days after.

Pics are a must!

did you ever decide on tires? I'd do MTRs because I dont spend a lot of time in mud and ive heard they are better or equal all around also I'm not too impressed with how the m/ts handle in the snow.

I went with the BFG's because they were running a sale on em and ended up being cheaper than the MT/R's, also figured I've had experience with em and I liked em so I'm hopin for the best.

Rig is gonna be out of the body shop tomorrow and then it'll be goin back to the shop on Friday or Monday to get the lift put on and then the tires the same day.

Pics will be up as soon as I can take em!

*UPDATE*

Got the rig back this afternoon fresh from the paint booth, looks amazing! Absolutely amazing! Paint is smooth as a babies bottom and no scratches whatsoever!

As for the lift, I have an appointment with the dealership for all-day Tuesday to get the rear coils, rear shocks and front spacers installed, should be done by about 4 or so and then I'll be taking it to Sam's to get the tires mounted.

Pics will be up this weekend of the new paint and then mid next week with the lift/tires.

I did some shopping around for tires and finally just bit the bullet on what I know and trust...the BFG muds, I read in another thread that you're going with the All-Terrains, good choice I would have gone with those but I wanted a more aggressive look and better traction in mud, I have a feeling its going to be a bad winter and my parents road always turns into a mud pit.

Good luck with your shopping and I'll get pics up as soon it all gets installed.

*UPDATE*2

Lift is on!!!! Looks awesome, tires are going on tomorrow and then I will have pics up!

I now have a set of stock rear coils for a '99 Runner and a set of rear Bilsteins for the same rig, just thought I'd put that out there, haven't had time to come up with a price yet but if you want em just PM me and I can get you a price.
