Coolant in Oil?

Hi guys,

Changed the oil in my 98 4runner with the 5vz-fe. Before draining the oil, I checked the dipstick and wiped it into a clean white rag. Green residue showed up on the rag. So I think coolant is getting into the oil. I have noticed coolant loss for sometime, but no sign of where it went till now. So I think it's the head-gaskets going. Is that a good assertion? Could something else be leaking instead of the head gasket?

Most definitely sounds like a head gasket. Have you noticed a coolant loss? Any type of sludgy buildup in the overflow reservoir?

You may get a compression test done but I think you have already got the answer. Sorry dude.

Yes I have noticed some coolant loss. Not much though. No sludge buildup. Kinda hard to tell though as coolant levels fluctuate depending on heat, right?

I have time now so I'll just do it myself. Don't particularly need transportation at the moment either. Anyway, timing belt was done 50K miles ago. Has about another 40k more to go before it needs a change. Maybe I'll change it now though... Water pump was done then too.

Most of the timing belt components can be had on the cheap from Aircabinman on ebay.

As for the rest of the job I think this is a good starting point, may be able to find the felpro stuff at Advcance Auto and they have discount codes you can use when purchased online.
