clutch problems

hey guys, noob here, i was googling for help and came across the forums. i guess this will be my intro thread and first help me please thread. i have a 96 tacoma, faded red with about 108K on the clock. ran into my first real problem with her recently. the truck was loaned out to my sister (she needed it to move) and against my better judgement i let her use it, when she brought it back the clutch didnt feel quite right, and if i held it depressed at a stoplight, it would release really slow. well i replaced the clutch slave cylinder after some advice from a family friend. inspecting the old one showed that it was sticking a bit. on the test drive though, i came to a stoplight and had the clutch depressed as well as the brake. the motor started to sputter like it wanted to stall, i released the brake and the truck started moving forward with the clutch still depressed. what would make the clutch engage with the clutch depressed? it shifts fine while driving. sorry for the long post, and any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks
