I'd say 96 and up. If he's worried about economy, get one w/ the 2.7 4cyl. and a stick. I consistantly got 23-24 mpg on the highway w/ the one I had.

I'm also looking for a Tacoma. Which engine and years had the head gasket problem? I know that the 3.0 V6s were crap, but my 96 4runner with the 3.4 hasn't had any problems.

The 95.5 through 97 5VZ had an external HG flaw on some models. Call the dealer with the prospective VIN and check it out. Having the recall done is not always a bad thing - you can combine services needed at a much cheaper cost while they are in there.
I recommend 98 and up with the TRD package. I had a 98 LTD and loved it...all except for the x-cab and Auto trans. |

Buying Tacoma
Check the For Sale section 98 Tacoma X-cab V6 sr5 TRD 5-speed, if you are in the market for a used one. Check some local stealerships for thier price then look in the classifieds, here or in the Seattle Times/ P.I. ( same thing ).
