Hey Guys, I'm new on this forum.

Nice looking Aisin Manual locking hubs.

What is the temperature setting on the oven when you bake them Cebby? I would like to paint mine Yellow on dial and Black on cap. What do you guys think?

That was one of my choices, but I opted for the body color. I never ended up baking them. The finish seemed plenty hard. I ended up using Plasikote Autobody paint. (Three coats of color, two of clear) I used SEM Trim Black on the dial ring and left it semigloss.

It looks like Corey's friend used a dremel and cut out the black plastic cap so that it would fit over the hub body...

What are the inner gasketnumbers guys??

How much were the gasket and the replacement bolts?

You did a great job Cebby.


For Hokiez97, the part number for the inner gasket is 43422-60010, this is the gasket between the front axle hub and the free wheeling hub and should cost you around $1.28 each.

Not sure on the part numbers. I just told the parts guy I had Aisin manual hubs and they just pulled something from stock. They were like .60 each or something. Somewhere in this post is the part numbers I think. I just put a wire wheel on my bench grinder and cleaned up the existing bolts.

I was missing a cap, so dremeling the cap to fit the hub body isn't going to happen. I do like how it looks though.

Hey guys.. just ran a 210 mi. round trip today. (HAD to get the wife out of the house) It was a blistering 5 degrees above zero today. I averaged 18.75 mpg. today! All I have for mods so far is the air intake tube mod and I switched over to the aisins about 10 days back.
I'm gonna do it... I'm gonna get 20 to 22 mpg hi-way.
Electric fan next. Might do an atomizer... depends on the results some of the others get.

What?? No red dial in the poll? heck that is the stock color..

PS, Black is 2 coats of DuPont Imron black and the red is a custom mix base coat clear coat Dupont Chroma Premier.. (was nice working in a body shop.. Kinda miss access to a spray booth!

yeah, i thought about leaving them red, but they needed to be cleaned up. Plus, there isn't ANY red on my rig (except in the engine bay)

BTW, if you take some very fine sand paper, you can lightly sand the markings on the hub dial & cap.. see mine

I clear coated mine already. Can I still do it? I've got to wait til it gets a littel warmer and some of the snow melts (gotta work outside, not enough room in the garage - too many toys )

You can, it will not rust, it may oxidide a little, but you really will not notice it, and if it bothers you you can just give them a light sanding to remove it.. Staple the sand paper to a piece of wood block to make it firm, use 400 grit at the least, I would use 1000 grit. Ask at a body shop.. standard for wet sanding paint before buffing.. ask them if they have a good used piece, it will even be a little finer, but work great

When I took the paint off the letters on mine, I cheated. I let the paint set-up, but used a razor blade on them while the paint was still a little soft.... it took me roughly 1 min. to do ea. hub.

Hey guys, you forgot to put Silver Body, Black Cap, and Yellow dial on the poll. Well, after seeing Cebby's black and blue hubs, I decided to paint mine yellow.

I replaced the bolts that hold the cap or ring in place because they were all corroded and the new bolts cost me .79 cents each and the new part number is 91641-80616 from Toyota. Lubricated all moving parts with Amsoil MP High Temp Synthetic Grease.

Then I went to Harbor Freight, bought me a hole saw kit for 3.99 and used the 3 1/2 saw to cut the plastic center cap. I used a half moon file to smooth out the edges.

I attached pictures before and after. Go check them out.

Here's my assistant mechanic trying to wink at me while holding the brake pedal so I can break those tight nuts and bolt loose. I'm proud of this guy and he wants to be a mech.

Did mine look that bad?? j/k I had an earlier thread where I listed the yellow (could have been the skidplate color though...) I was going to do yellow match my Bils, PP Coils and 'custom" tow hook, but I got talked out of it by the forum. I do like the yellow, though.
I had the same problem even after wire wheeling them, they rusted almost immediately. I got stainless bolts and washers from a local supplier I know for $2.00 for the lot.
I had lost one cap and I found that one was damaged when I removed it, so the only two good ones left are on the rig.

My little helpers are a little too small now, but they are into it and will be helping soon.

Cebby, your hubs were looking great and matter of fact you gave me the motivation to rebuild mine and painted them yellow. Oh by the way, I would also want to paint my skid plate yellow just like what you said to match the Bilstein shocks. The left over yellow paint I used it to paint the LPSV mounting bracket and brake hose relocating bracket again to match the Bilstein rear shock absorber.

I was thinking to get the stainless bolts too but I had a hard time finding them. I went to Lowe's and Home Depot but no luck so I went to the stealer. Where did you get yours?

Give your helper a little time and next time you know it, they'll be handing you wrenches and be around you every time you pop the hood. My boy is aggressive and I let him clean all the tools after work just to get him familiarize with common tools.

Why did you get talked out by the forum and what was the reason?
