Adjusting valves on their 2.7L??

Hi folks, I have a question pertaining to my 96 4runner. It has about 110,000mi on it now and I'm noticing the valves are rather noisy. I use 5w-30 all the time and it is definitely full. It doesnt just happen at start up so its not the oil drain back (I use toyota filters anyways). I can hear them easily from the inside. My previous 88' had the 22RE and the valves on the 2.7 sound alot like the old truck. I want to say that since the 3RZ is a DOHC 16 valve engine it should be alot smoother than a 22R. Am I too critical?? Is adjusting the valves on the 2.7 just as crucial as it is on the 22R? I know its the shim type valve adjust and I dont want to do that myself really. It has no other problems with idle. I have heard plenty of Honda DOHC 16 valve 4 cylinders and they are super smooth no noticeable valve noise of any kind. So what gives, do I need a valve adjust?? Should I check the oil pressure and make sure the cams are getting oil?? Thanks guys...

toyota is pretty keen on using mechanical valvetrains, honda might use some sort of hydraulic tappets for the valves.

i don't see where a DOHC engine would necessarily be smoother than a regular SOHC engine, being that there's twice as many valves to make noise. if it's anything like the 22R, the cams have an oil trough that the lobes dip into so i don't think oiling is the problem.

Thanks I appreciate it. Although I suppose a valve adjust couldnt hurt. Just trying to sort it all out though, maybe avoid 300.00 or whatever it would cost to have the valves adjusted. Thanks again.
