ABS Question
Hello everyone. I am a new user here and was unable to find an answer to this in the searches I did. my wife and I have a 2002 4Runner we purchased this summer and we love the truck and have not had any issues with it. Today when I was driving it I notice a sound when I cam to a stop and then a click. I have pinpointed it to the ABS system. It sounds like it is energizing itself and then you here the solenoid click on the other side of the engine compartment. I know its normal for it to do this when you start up the car but ours does it ever other stop or so. I also did not notice this before. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

Nothing to worry about, it's perfectly normal for the 01/02 4Runners. They have an electric pump to provide boost for the brakes, instead of the more normal vacuum booster. When you use the brakes the pump will run to pressurize the nitrogen cylinder that's next to the brake master cylinder so you have brake boost for the next stop. The clicking is just the relay turning the pump off.
I have an 01 and it seems like it makes the noise more on some days than others, but I think it's just that I'm more aware of it sometimes.

Thanks for the replies guys. I thought it was probably normal. The breaks work just fine. I guess I just never noticed the noise before. If you have the radio on (even low volume) you will not hear it. Guess I was just being paranoid. Anyway, thanks for the replies. Glad I found these forums!
