4th Gen rims

I recently got a nail in my rear tire and had to put the spare on. I was surprised to find that the spare had a matching rim. I have been considering dropping down to 16" rims from the stock 17" rims after my lift to have a bigger selection of tires and to have more side wall for the trails. While I was swapping the spare I noticed that there isn't much room between the front calipers and the 17" rim. Did Toyota change the front rotors and calipers after the initial 03's with stock 16" rims were sent over? Has anyone with the stock 17" rims dropped to 16" rims? If so what rims did you find?

I have already searched the forum and did not find the exact answers to my questions.

Thanks in advance,

If you want, I'll trade you my 16" rims for your 17"?

I think I can answer your question. I do know that the 17" alloys were optional when I purchased my truck, so I believe the rotors and pads are the same from 03 to 04. I wouldn't make sense to have two sets of rotors and pads.

When the 4Runners 1st came out for 03 they actually had 16inch rims at least the SR% did but here in the Northeast they did away with ordering any 4Runners with 16, I doubt they enlarged the rotors or calipers after a model year but on t4r.org their was a discussion on why the Sport and GX470 have larger rotors then the SR5 and Limited but share the same size calipers and brake pads

The part numbers for the brake parts are different for 16 and 17 inch wheel packages, so I would tend to think that the 17 has bigger parts.

We have talked about this soooo many times.

The '03 Sport has larger brakes ... ~13" so they can't fit 16" rims ... but the SR5s have the smaller brakes which allow for 16" rims.

Anyway, there are tons of threads on this topic here, and I'm sure you could get a lot of info there, I would write more but I don't have the time right now- just wanted to quickly answer your question (you should be able to fit 16" rims as long as you do not have the Sport).

Thanks in advance,
In short, 16" rims will fit the stock SR5 as long as the offset is correct. I put a set of 16" REVO's on a set of the stock 16" steel rims with no problem. I use that set for winter, and go back to the 17" alloys in the summer.

yeah, and there are some cool wheels at wheelersoffroad.com and i know for a fact that those 16" rims will fit an SR5 ... another guy on the board, ahriman, just tested those out because we were all worried that they mightn't fit ... but they do.
