I did search all the killer info available but cannot find a good explanation for why we need to level the 4th gens...

...I am guessing factory its nose down, correct ???

you don't "need" to ... but ... Yes, from the factory it is nose down.

with my 3" Revtek (3" in front, 2.5" in rear) there is now only a one inch difference between front and rear ...

You know provided I had the complete SAW in one hand, I could pull out the old strut and replace with a SAW on my 99 in under 10 mins !!!

Ah well, the price for progress but after having an 04 Tahoe Z71 all week while the Runner was at the body shop, I need lift and soon !

I feel ya. The combo of reading 4route's story (great job!) and having 7 inches of lift on my old rig is making me want to go Revtek. And I just got the thing in Oct. I love the feel and look of a lifted up truck but hate all the problems that come with wheeling one hard. I have to jack it up some..... but don't see bashing it like my old rig. Kind of silly and I would make fun of those floks a few years ago but it would be mostly for looks. Anyone know the best place to get a good price on the Revtek 3in. Rocky Mout. Susp wants $495 including shipping - any place got one for less? I always figured that all was said and done it costs about $100 bucks an inch for a lift so it feels a bit high. I know it's still less than list price but don't we all want to get the best deal?

Yeah, if you are looking for the best price on the Revtek kit, go to Gary @ Wheelers ... he has the best price, and I ordered it on a Thursday or Friday and received it the next Monday or Tuesday ... so, it is VERY fast shipping!

I think the term is gender neutral.

4 inch susp and 3 inch body on the 96 ranger sc 4.0 33's - coolest mod was the Eaton Posi in custom 8.8. It was also one of the last. If you take it off road do the locker 1st. If is could do it all again I would have just gone 2 in BL or no BL and cut the fenders. The more I wheeled the more I learned about low center of gravity (I also had plenty of room to stuff 33's). I love the new rig but it so darn low! I don't mind the rake in the back - any way to get 3 full inches out of the back?

I'm not sure about getting a full 3 inches out of the back with the Revtek or Daystar kit ... hopefully if we this thread some more knowledgeable guys will chime in about it.

This is probably a dumb question, but why do you need to replace the shoes. Does it have to be done if you lift?

no, it doesn't have to at all ... I think it's just that for a lot of us, we're lifting so we can have more clearance off-road, and so getting different tires is another helpful upgrade for offroading ... and after the 3" lift, we're able to fit bigger tires under there. it's not necessary ... just preference, and there is some benefit for off-roading.
