I don't know for sure if it will interfere, but even if it will it doesn't seem like anything that couldn't be easily cured. The molded exterior pieces will of course be in the same location, it will be the interior air duct that will need lengthened.

I've read that you have to buy the Tacoma air tube for the snorkel to fit the 4runner. Does this replace the entire air intake under the hood? How does everything fit together under the hood?

It shouldn't be an issue. I have installed 2 on my 2nd Gen's and the only thing you might run into is inside. There isn't much room for error. You can always add more to it to make it reach.

You're absolutely fine, the throttle, intake, airbox, tacoma sleeve and snorkel fitting all stay the same.
the younger 3rd gens had the taco sleeve included and connected from factory, i'm pretty sure that excludes 2000 but pull your well liner down and take a peek for yourself

It shouldn't be a problem, I've got a 1" BL on my '01 and had no issues with the install. Remember to get the Taco air intake tube to replace your stock 4Runner one for the Safari Snorkel to install properly. It's part number 53807-35020.
As I mentioned we had no real issues with the install, however just prior to drilling the main hole, it looked as if my fender flares might interfere or get cut into a bit. You can see here the snorkel mounts just above the flares.

I got mine from Curtis at 4x4 Connection. If you look at the 4Runner on their website for the Toyota Safari Snorkels, that's mine. Curtis took some pics of the install since it was the first time they had installed a Taco snorkel on a 4Runner.

Do I need the factory air elbow that connects to the 4runner air box to install the snorkel? Or does the new tacoma air sleeve come with it? Here is a diagram, its #7.
