Beautiful job on the sliders and front and rear guards.
Even my wife just looking over my shoulder just commented how sweet it looks.

That is exactly what I was thinking of doing......great minds.
Can you email me the CAD drawings (front, rear and sliders) so I can have some fabbed up.

I am going to redraw the front and rear since some changes had to be made during fabrication. I do have the slider drawings done with correct specs.

What version of AutoCAD do you have?

I can take almost any version of AutoCAD or it may be even easier to just send a PDF (would prefer the latter)......either will work just fine tho.

looks like it might be a good alternative to a $1K rear bumper. For now at least.

Thanks transalper it's always good that somebody likes my work. I will measure the transfercase skid also once the snow melts, hopefully in a day or two, and post the specs on my site.

Ok I set out to dublicate cubuff4runner's rear bumper idea today. First thing I realized was that, its not the factory hitch he used, he either has one of those hidden ones, or he fabbed his own. Second thing I quickly realized was that you would either have to cut off the muffler pipe and run it closer to the rear mudflap or something else (on his webpage he mentions putting i an aftermarket exhaust). Third thing that kicked in was that, I would lose a good 2-3 inches in ground clearance.

and here I was thinking I could just have some U shaped pipes welded onto the reciever and I would be done for less then a hundred bucks. :cry: and I wouldn't have to budget in a new rear bumper.

Don't get me wrong I liked his work thats why set out to duplicate it. It just doesn't look like its going to work for me.

If you have the factory hitch already you shouldn't loose any additional clearance except on the bumperettes. However, I think the loss in ground clearance there would be worth the benefit of protection until you can get (if you choose to) a complete rear bumper.

You'll just have to get used to the sound of steel hitting rocks

If I cut about 2 inches off of the exhaust pipe will it have any affect on anything? Like sound, emissions inspection, etc

If I can do that then I can still clear the pipes around the exhaust pipe. I agree with you on the ground clearance issue. I guess I'm willing to sacrifice that for now in exchange for the protection.

So lets hear the thoughts on cheap ways to fix the exhaust issue.

I think I would cut it off at an angle so you can clear the tube. It shouldn't affect anything.

You could also extend the hanger so it goes below the tube, then you might get into issues of the exhaust clearing obstacles or rubbing the crossmember as it goes over the axle.

I think your best bet is to cut it off.

Or he could just shorten the tube so it doesn't reach the exhaust. That's sort of what I did with mine.

Let me see if I can dig up a picture when I get home. Basically, don't let the armor extend all the way to the exhaust. Some of the bumperette will be exposed that way, but with my rear sliders I don't think I hit anything that close to the tire anyway.
