285/75/16s on 16x7s?

Will 285/75/16 BFG All-Terrains fit on my stock 2000 Limited 16x7 rims or do I need to get 16x8 rims? It will be used 99% on-road and rarely will be deflated.

Thanks,

Dave

Short answer Yes, many have done it on factory rims.

I'm curious why it's not recommended Good Times? (I know i could probably search and find it, but I'm too tired too )

I'm wanting to get some A/Ts (Still unsure what kind) for my '98 and have been wondering what size I should go with.

Well if you don't have a BL or Suspension Lift, max you can go is 265/75/16

Dave,

Until you get them SAWs and Downeys on there and get up some, you'll only be able to drive STRAIGHT with 285s on a stock height rig.

Why don't you go ahead and just sell your OEM rims and get some aftermarket ones that are 16x8 and not worry about it? I just ordered some Tech1 rockcrawlers like Dave's (Mad Chemist) with some black lugnuts and they were 16x8. Thinking about it, I don't ever recall seeing an aftermarket rim, at least the ones I looked at, that was 16x7. Must just be an OEM thing. Backspacing is the same way. OEM are 4.375" and most aftermarkets are 4" or 4.25". Weird.

Show us some pics when you get that lift done and the new wheels!

The lift and the new tires will be installed at the same time. Everything is scheduled for Saturday, Nov 1st. I know they will fit in under the fenders, its just a matter of whether a 16x7 rim is not wide enough to fit the tire. The recommended wheel width for these tires is 8" so that got me a bit concerned. I might just have to go out and buy some MT Classic IIs. Too bad they are so dang expensive.

Consider these Tech1 Rockcrawlers, 16" x 8" with 4.25" bs:

I got (5) for under $350 shipped. Dave (Mad Chemist) has some on his rig as do several others.

I run stock 16 x 7 and they fit just fine. I haven't had a problem with running 285's on stock wheels at all. With saying that though, if it really concerns you I would listen to Brian and purchase something like he's got.

They'll be fine

They'll fit man, I have 285's on my stock 16x7's. If they're 99% on road (aired up) you won't have any problems. You'll probably have to crank up your SAW's though to prevent rubbing. (You did say you were getting some rebuilt SAW's right?) I have OME 881's for my front suspension and had to add a 1" spacer to stop the rubbing. And a word of advice if you're doing it yourself: make sure you have the RIGHT tools BEFORE you start the install.
