new t4r owner here. Love my rig. hate the brakes. warped rotors vibrate when braking at highway speeds. I've done some reading on this board already. Brembo seems to be the upgrade everyone recommends. I think I'll just go with the blanks rather than cross drilled or slotted. My brother owns and operates a Saab/volvo shop, and his best experiences have been with Centric rotors. Pretty sure they're available for my 4runner. Anyone use them? He's used brembos as well, but has had some come back with warping (albeit not on 4runners).

Anyway, down to my real question. My 4runner is the sport edition with 16" wheels. Does this mean it came with the bigger brakes as well, or did they just stick bigger wheels on 15" brakes? anyone with a sport edition that's recently replaced rotors? Don't know which size rotor to order.

All SEs have 16" wheels and I think Toyota stuck the biggest rotors that fit behind the wheels so definetly don't go bigger.

Actually if you go to some website like autozone that lets you set up the vehicle right down to the wheel size you will see that the p/n's are the same for 15" and 16" wheels.

If you are replacing your rotors and pads, I would make the VERY strong reccomendation that you look at the threads for the Tundra brkae upgrade that a lot of us have done. The Tundra rotors are soooooo much thicker that you will aviod the warping problems that many of us 4Runner drivers have experienced.

The economics of it would require investing in new calipers too, but so far it has been well worth the extra $$ spent on the calipers. I got the LLT calipers from autozone and they were $89 Throw in the $6 spent at the dealer for the pad retaining pins and the clips for the pins, it was an extra $186 for the tundra upgrade.

FYI - My rotors were warped bad and required replacement so I upgraded to the Tundra brakes for the extra thick rotors to avoid warping. No sense in replacing the rotors and not actually address the problem of inadequate rotors.

I'll have to see what brand I upgraded too but it was recommended by my mechanic and never had a problem along with using ceramic pads going on two years with my '99.
