2.4L 2wd Taco -- suggestions needed!
taking my 1996 2.4L 2wd taco (ext. cab) and wanting to make it more manly... too low to the ground
im real big into 4x4s and modifications, just dont have the money for a 4wd truck now..
wanting to make it more many like i said and good enough for "TRAIL RIDING" not too much mud.. dont want to mess her up, shes treated me good
by the way.. anyone in b'ham, holler at me
list of possible future mods (going for the dk. green (truck) black (hardware) combination:
2.5" susp. lift (suggestions for cheapest way)
maybe a little body lift
31x10.5" tires - all-terrains (suggestions on brand)
Fender flares
ventshades
Bug guard
GTS Blackout headlight covers
Black brush guard
2 off-road lights
black wheels
window tint
taillight lamp covers
black nerf bars
black tool box
also any suggestions for more power and better sound (flowmasters 40 series, k&n intake/filter...?)
thanks yall..

aight thanks man, i will probably go with one of those.. what do you think about the dark green + black combination, would you go with black or chrome?
BLACK = way cheaper, looks neat
CHROME = stylish, more expensive
and do you think its a bad idea to mod a 2.4L 2x4 for small offroading?
power/sound --?

Either that, or buy an older Toy 4x4 and get rid of the Tacoma...

ARB Air locker - REAR - ~$700
2.5" Susp. Lift - ~$400
2" Body lift - ~$175
$1200, for 4.5" lift and differential lock... worth it?
not to mention tires/wheels... NEED cheap black wheels and cheap all-terrains

Hey, I'm in Birmingham. Live/work out on 280. Check out discounttiredirect.com and tirerack.com. I saw on there the other day that one of them had free shipping an had LT265/75/16 load class D Nitto Terra Grapplers for $114 each. I paid $540 for mine downtown at some tire warehouse last year. I love them. As far as a locker goes, I'll be able to tell you if it's worth it in a few weeks. Waskillywabbit (a.k.a Brian) lives in T-town and he and I are planning on getting together in Gardendale for a ride in a couple of weeks. Are you game? You could ride along, anyway. Know any other good places around here to wheel?

im in riverchase.. if know where that is, im sure you do... also from what i understand 30" will fit on a stock 2wd 1996 tacoma, so would you recommend lifting it a few and putting 31's on it?

Depends on what you want... If it's not a prerunner taco, then you may have some problems. If it's a prerunner, then you'll be fine and will be able to go some places that a 4wd with open diffs can't go.

2.4L lifted? You're gonna spend a LOT of money on this thing, and have a REALLY slow truck. Just save the money and get a better truck... something more geared for off roading, like a 3.4L prerunner, or something.

yea i know what you are sayin.. did they make prerunners in the early year tacos (95.5-96...)? those are my fav., and i could only spend around $8k...
so, if possible, i guess an older prerunner v6 will do the job i am lookin for in college (offroading with buddies)

I know where a 89 toyota 4x4 v6 is for the asking price of $3,500 152,000 miles. Thats the cheapest way and best way. I'm in west GA just south of I-20. Its on Hwy 5.
