1999 Hood Scoop on 1997 4Runner

I am thinking about replacing my 1997 hood with the 1999 sports edition hood. I found it on an aftermarket website for $130. Has anyone else done this?

Exactly what are those parts? Couldn't you be a cheapass and just fabricate a "plug";it's just for looks anyway but you could do something to make it functional.

nope. there's the plastic "scoop" insert that's $110, then the mesh grill that's like $20, then the black plastic piece that fits behind the mesh grill for another $20, then some misc rivets, nuts, and adhesieve padding. In all about $150.

Hood from Toyota Dealer (best quality and no shipping): $300
Other parts from Toyota Dealer (only source): $150
Paint and installation from a body shop: $300

Total : $750.

Only reason I got one is because I was having to replace my hood anyway. I only spent $120 on the extra parts, then did all the paint myself and still came out WAY ahead.

They look sweet but it's too much for my budget for a *bling* item but maybe later.

Yea I got my hood from a friend at work. It was of a 2002 4runner and it was forest green but in contrast to the desert dune color it looks black. I only paid 100$ for it . If i were you i'd look around on ebay. There was a VIS carbon fiber hood on there for like 300 or so and it looks just like stock w/ the hood scoop.
