02 Aftermarket stereo install question

Alright i read through all of the other install write-ups and i still have some questions left unanswered. what are the differences between the 98 stereo install(mostly just taking the dash apart) versus the 2002? i dont see how to pry out the peice behind the air controls on the 02, also the upper center part is one big piece that goes all the way up as oppossed to stopping at the cup holder in the earlier models. So yeah if any one can tell me the differences for the 02, that would be awesome as i am currently mid-way andhave hit a roadblock

thanks

I do believe my 99 will be the same as your 02.

First pull the cupholders straight up. The shroud wraps around your E-brake.

Then here is a difference. I pull off the shroud from around my transmission (manual). There are 2 little tabs from the front panel going into the shroud around my transmission that prevents me from just pulling off the front.

This then easily allows me to pull off that front panel. After the front panel is off, 4 screws to take out the stereo. If you buy a stereo adapter and realize it doesnt fit, you have a stock amplifier mounted in the same cubby as the stereo. Its just below with 2 screws holding it in.

If this doesnt work for an automatic, someone else should chime in.

Good luck! What are you putting in?

Extremely easy to take out, like Greg says. Just take your time and make sure you unplug all the dash connectors after popping off the dash that surrounds the radio.

Good Luck!
