Tbennett13's 1995 4Runner Build-Up Thread
Hey there everyone!
I have FINALLY! wandered my back into a 4runner!
My first Runner was a hand-me-down 1998 2wd 4runner that before a few pistons decided to exit the vehicle in a few places going 40mph, had 315k on the clock. It was the best and practical vehicle for high-school, long trips from south Texas to north Lousiana 6 times a year, and was teenager proof.
After the 4runner had past away I wanted to resemble my ego ( Young, dumb, and full of... well you get the point) and make everyone hear it. So I picked up a 2000 Camaro Z28 with 105K and a few bolt-on's and exhaust...yada yada yada.
It was the best bad decision I have made to this date.
She has been my daily for 3 years now and I am just getting so tired of the fast car scene right now. So a customer had there 4runner towed into my shop needing a transmission and I told him what all was needed his parent pulled the plug on it and wanted to send it to a scrap yard. I was talking to him on the phone and he asked if I knew someone who would buy it and referred myself!
Annndddd $400 later she became mine!!
Not the prettiest in the world but for $400 I am not complaining. The transmission was put in a few days ago and have been driving it around town figuring out what else is wrong and what to do next.
The Build:
Looking forward to making new friends and sharing this experience with everyone, and Hope no minds helping me with a few questions I probably will have in the near future!!

Great job on saving one from the scrap heap. Looks great and for the price you did great. I just did an 88 runner and did most of the interior, still waiting on getting the seats done but interior isnt as bad as I thought it would be and can be done quite reasonable.
Welcome to Yotatech and looking forward to your build.

Thank you sir!
This is what I love to do, I work everyday managing a auto repair shop and selling auto repair, I have been in the automotive industry since I was 16, and it never gets old.
Next thing on my to do list is going to be fix all the damn leaks!
I cant park the 4Runner somewhere for more than 5 minutes or I leave them a nice puddle of oil and coolant.
Then swap the front Diff. from the 87 Pickup I am parting out to get rid of the ADD system. After I replaced the transmission 4WD was not working and I found that out as soon as I made it to a local trail to "try it out" on bald street tires. well 2 feet later I buried my self in some sand

Sounds like a done deal, sounds easy... a little too easy though haha
Besides a few thing like:
I already bought and installed another auto trans
I already installed the auto trans.
I regret going with an auto trans
The truck has a saggy ass and the WHOLE front end has play in it... and yes.. every single steering component has some play in it.
oil pan is pouring
power steering pump is leaking
timing belt has probably never been done
original, plugs, cap and rotor
both drive shafts are bent and out of balance
And dont forget :wabbit2: some of there goodies
Sooo I have my work ahead of me and that means a few 14 hour days at the shop on sundays when we are closed. But I am not complaining one bit just getting started
