What's the black heart shaped spot on the #1 piston? Looks like a hole in the pic.
The choco mess is yucky for sure. You'll have it back in fine running form soon.

I went to school for mechanic and then the front wheel drives started coming onto the scene and I still dont care to work on them. They say they are to bad to work on. I dont want to find out. Like that Mustang in your video, it is interesting what a laptop can do to one nowadays. I would be intimidated to work on something like that. Things have changed since then.
I still see some post where people think the EGR is a good thing. Not in my book, they make a big mess. At the very least block it off. I have a friend who does the newer diesels and carbon is the biggest issue on them. Hope the Santa Clause in the brown suit showed up at your door.

Sure enough...I have a pile of goodies now. Now I have to get everything cleaned up and ready..oh boy.
The nice thing is it should be in the 60's by the end of the week.
Not looking forward to the vacuum hose nightmare that awaits..lol
Well...off to work. I sound so enthusiastic huh?

Well...pulled the rocker assembly of the head. The rockers and cam are bad. Post some pics when phone battery is charged.
So oem new or oem refurbished. Gonna make some calls.

Well crap. Whole rocker assembly is junk.
Still weighing my options. Kinda stalls me for a bit...but I expected it.
Don't really want to dump $450 on the LC set up. $350 for the 22reperformance set up. And the $150 ebay reman set up worries me.
GRRR.

Ewww! That last post of pics made me shudder.
I'm using Subaru Long Life coolant because Jay Wolfe only carries Toyota Pink now. I haven't tried other dealerships and am not interested in the aftermarket Toyota replacements either. I'm not saying use the Subie coolant, just that that's what I chose to do. There's some interesting info on that somewhere here in Yotatech.

You can get red off ebay Habenero.
So I got the rest of the tear down done.
Waterpump...looked new.
Oil pump...looked new.
Timing cover...not a single mark from a prior chain rub.
Chain and guides....perfect.
Still a mystery as to why the cam wore. Only thing I could think of...is the
doofus I sold it to did replace a valve cover gasket.. maybe he "adjusted" the valves. 1 oil pump bolt was backed out..couple others loose. It was obviously leaking. Maybe it was a pressure drop and starved the upper end. That's my bet.

Hey Mr. Mouse. Call me if you can...I've managed to destroy my nokia phone and lost all ma numbers. ( I kill a phone every 6 months. Its not pretty.)
Habenero...just because you use coolant for "boxer" engine Subaru's
doesn't mean your truck is tougher...lol. Imma go red.
At least I'm halfway I suppose. I wish I could have an actual day off soon to play in the garage. This 2 hours here and there is not satisfactory garage time for me.

Life can get turned upside down when the phone crashes out. I hear you on the 2 hours, it sounds like a lot of time, but when working on one it sure flies by when out in the shop. You are still maing progress and that what counts. You will get there.
