well i had a pretty interesting week with the 4runner. I went on a fishing trip, caught lots of fish but on the way back i blew a rad hose, overheated the engine and im pretty sure i warped the head. Guess this is my trucks way of telling me she wants some engine upgrades lol. still not entirely sure what im gonna do but im tossing around the idea of either a 3.4 swap if i can find one, or maybe getting a better cylinder head, and making the 22re a stroker (still gotta do a little more research on the one though)

Think it's much easier to do that 3.4 if you have a 3.0 already.... Trans bolts right up, mounts don't have to move much, wiring stuffs? Not really the one to talk about it like I know much, lol... But I hear things! lol.
Thought about a 3RZ? That thing has twice the power, nearly, and better mileage, and OBD2, and from what Big Mike says.... "Piece of Cake once you plan it all out"...
but then, ..... 1UZ is still one of my favorite possibilities, some day, in another rig, another time, of course! lol.
Sorry to hear, man.... still lovin the rig! Maybe just the Putney's or Engnbldr head and a nice cam, header, ...... then driver her? lol. Mine is doing fine, 75 up the Cahon pass with the Air on(for the most part, but nothing less than 65 in the worst spots, WITH AC on...) ...... Unlike the 45 in spots in 3rd gear, WHINING! lol. Just sayin... might get you going in days going that route. Either way you go, BEST WISHES, MAN, I'LL BE WATCHING! lol

hmmm, there's too many choices lol. Maybe i should just go with an engnbldr head like you said. I already have the crawler cam and i have a header on the way. The 22re has pretty good power for what i need. I'm a flat lander so i don't have to worry about passes too much unless i head out west. Also, an engine swap is more work than im interested in right now, i just wanna go wheeling haha.

I had a warped head on my 22r. I took it to my fav machine shop and had them do their magik. They took 15 thous off. It cost me about half of what it would have cost me for a brand new one. Now the block is getting a .30 over bore and some crank and rod work. It costs less than a engine swap and you still get to keep the good mileage of the 22r. I would stay with the 22r until I had the money and want to swap, if I were you.

wow its been a while, i ended up going with the engnbldr head and a header. Anyway, I finally got it finished tonight and fired it up for the first time. She fired right up with no problems what so ever. Just gotta re-rout the exhaust a bit for the header and i should be good to go! Im starting to look around a bit for another t-case also, thats next on the list of things to do.

Thanks chef, we'll im gonna need something to do over the winter and now that my engine is finally operational again and since i missed another summer of wheeling, im going to start looking at more mods and upgrades.
Here's what im thinking so far:
spool for the front (i know what you're thinking, but for 100 bucks i can deal with locking and unlocking hubs lol)
T-case emergency brake
Trunion bearing eliminator kit
I might do a rear disc brake conversion, and im going to start looking into doing a dual t-case.
Thats the plan anyway, we shall see how it goes.

Hey everybody! I'm back, and with more parts to add to the runner. I'm getting ready to install a Ram assist steering kit along with a high flow p/s pump, i have the trunion bearing eliminator kit and i have new 4.88 gears on the way from trail gear. I'm also looking at redesigning my front bumper. Pictures to come!
Oh and you guys might be mad at me for this but i recently bought an 07 dodge ram, now i know what your thinking but its for the greater good of getting my 4runner off the road and in my garage so i can get it finished!
