884runner488 4runner build
So I picked up my 88 4runner 3.0 SR5 5 speed manual. I got it on a straight across trade for my old 96 f250 lifted 9" on 37's. Some may say that I got the short end of the stick but I think I got the better deal considering I can once again afford to drive and hit the trails. Right now my 4runner is completely stock minus 31" toyo mts(dislike), cold air intake, and new paint job. All courtesy of the previous owner. My plans for this rig are to do a Zuk mod and lift it 4" and maybe some BJ spacers and I havent decided on what size tires or the type. Right now I am having major sagging problems in the rear
I dont do much really intense wheeling but some moderate wheeling where lockers and a sas would help.. but as of right now that seems to be out of my price range. Hopefully this build isnt super slow, hopefully ill be getting more hours of work
Once I bought the rig and got it home I noticed there was a grinding noise when I stopped and then i decided to pull my brakes and low and behold it was metal on metal brakes and the rotors were shot.

Thanks, Ive been pretty happy with it, went wheeling today and got close to a topple over, fell into a 3' deep rut and back left tire was way off the ground and had the teeter totter going back and forth. But unfortunately my bud didnt have his camera out to snap a picture. The brakes werent too bad but it was my first time seeing a split caliper system and taking apart the hubs was something I had to take my time on.

As of right now the plans are to do the zuk mod and try to get some new rear leafs(courtesy of the junkyard) and then when funds allow I really want to do a 4" lift on it but some part of me is just saying save the money and sas it.. unfortunately I do not know how to weld or do metal fab like that. Bumpers and armor will come after the lift atleast thats the plan as of right now. And as for tires I think Im going to try for some 35 km2's or if I can find a deal or tire i like more then Ill decide from there. This is my daily driver so I cant do things to it to compromise its on road capability. Any ideas or comments on which route to take would be greatly appreciated

I don't know what brand lift you are going for, but if the 4" lift comes with new springs, then the Zuk mod shouldn't be necessary. The manufacturer of the lift kit wouldn't send you new springs that already sag If it doesn't come with springs, it'll most likely come with blocks. Don't use the blocks and go straight for the zuk mod. I would say the zuk mod would be the best way to lift your rear end. There is no axle wrap, like you would get from blocks and it creates an overall smoother ride. But that's just my $0.02.
It looks like a great find and from what I can see from the pics, the body looks really solid. As for the KM2s, I've heard they are one of the best riding mud terrains around on pavement. I have heard similar about the Hankook Dynapro MTs.
Good luck! I'm definitely subscribed!

Thanks! and I was going to get the rough country lift. From what I've read and gathered the front end components are pretty well the same and they both come with rear blocks, so thats why im leaning for the zuk mod still. Im trying to build this on a budget, I guess i'll see how that works out. As for the KM2s my buddys got some 35's and Ive been out wheeling with him and they performed great. But I will take a look at those Hankook's as well.
And thanks for the sub

Got bored today sitting around after school and decided I would try and get some lights on before work. Got em for Christmas, some lights from Harbor Freight. Pretty bright, gonna mess with the angles a bit more but this is what they look like mounted. Considering painting the covers Kawasaki green. Let me know what you think of that idea.
Looking at that picture, is it just me or does it look like it is leaning to the passenger side?
Sorry about the poor quality. just took the pictures with my phone since I dont have a camera
And here is one of the areas where we head out.
The big hole on the left is where I wanted to dip into but decided against it that day. Hoping to get back out there soon.
