1985 IFS pickup 7mge swap
Im going to look at this truck I found tomorrow, its an 1985 single cab toyota pickup 4x4 with IFS and a 7mge swapped into it. Rust is the biggest problem it has I offered the guy 500 bucks and he said he would take it, i included some pics to see what you guys think if its worth 500 or not
He said the cab and frame are solid but box is toast, as you can see in one of the pictures 1 of the body mounts is cracked and rusted, waterpump is leaking too

I bought the truck! 525$ and its got a 5spd, 3 inch body lift, 7mge from a 90's supra swapped in it, custom front / rear bumpers and an aussie locker in the rear! Frames solid just one minor weld I have to do on one of the body mounts , still runs and drives great .. hell of alot more power then my 92 4runner v6 3.0l automatic. Drove it for atleast 8 hours today and had no problems, clutch could be updated but thats after i decide to flatdeck it or cut out all the rusted sheet metal from the box and put diamond checker plate in. Small leak in the water pump but temperature never got high and didnt even have to top it off at the end of the day. She aint no beauty queen but she will be me designated trail rig only thing i dont like is how my truck is a 1985 but it came with IFS heres some pics with my 92

That's a steal. I'd be all over that for 500$ man. The motor alone is worth that, plus I bet it has some kick since it's out of supra. Even with the rust etc, thats a good deal. Also after you lay that weld, I would most definitely sand and undercoat the frame.

Im almost done repairing the box only have 1 more sheet of metal to go in then ill be sandblasting the frame and painting with por15, ill try to get some pictures up this weekend when I insure it. I was pressure washing the frame the other day and alot of the surface rust was coming off, i thought this project was gonna be a lot more work then it turned out to be!

Before and after pic, I never take enough before pics. I decided to cut out the rust and just bolt in new metal, I like the look I achieved. Its not done yet [IMG]http://s4.postimg.org/51s7k960t/IMG_0863.jpg[/IMG
One of the taillights was busted out on the drivers side so I replaced that too. The gas cap thingy was also hanging because it rusted out, fixed that by bolting it into the box

Well what you have and what you were told are two different things. That is a cobbled together truck. They kept the registration for an 85 and stuck the cab on some other year frame.

That was my original thought when i first saw the ad , another thing i noticed was how on the cab there is a 2.4d badge and under the hood there is a 22r sticker Lol. I dont know if cobbled is the right word looks like they did a decent job to me! guy I bought it from didnt do any of the work so he had no idea

Hmm.... kinda makes you wonder if it was rolled...or maybe it a late model like you stated so it's an 86 with IFS but badged as an 85 even though that may slightly be a possibility I bet it's just a different cab but that's still kinda odd that the cab is a 2.4d at least here in America they would be, since they're pretty rare. But saying that it sounds and seems like a quickly thrown together truck I'd check every frickin' thing on that dang thing man.

I got the number for the shop that built the truck 5 years ago i might give em a call and see all the info i can get, i know the guy whos owned it for the past 5 years and it most deffintly has not been rolled in that time. I cant see why they would put a rolled body on a IFS frame if they did do the swap
heres what the truck looked like when i bought it, picture didnt work for some reason when i posted the most recent

I was a little tired when I replied last night so sorry it didn't make complete sense, but what I meant is that there is a possibility that the truck may have been rolled sometime within the last 28 years and that it was an 86 IFS originally but when rolled, rusted out, wrecked, whatever the circumstances may be.. the original cab may have been replaced with an 85 2.4d at some point then was registered as an 85 instead of a 86 because the cab was changed, so it literally could be an 86 but with an 85 cab and registered as an 85 instead of an 86 because of previous work because the DMV ran the VIN in the cab and if the cab was switched out at anytime they would take the VIN and register it as 85 because that's whats on it. Hopefully that all made sense hahah. And I must say that metal work on the bed looks a heck of a lot better than it did man. I gotta be honest your truck is killing me, I'm just trying to figure out why the heck it's an 85 with IFS.

Spoke with the guy who built the truck for a while today, he was estatic to see that it was still up and running and wants to come see it haha, when he sold the truck 5 years ago he rebuilt the engine, shaved heads replaced head gaskests and even torqued them to 75lbs! (these 7mge are notorious for head gasket failure if torqued to stock spec 65 lbs) There was 250,000km on the motor when he did this, and around 430,000km on the body, the truck orginally started off as a 1985 2wd import 2.4d and he swapped it over to a 4x4 1986 IFS. He was shocked i bought the thing for so cheap considering the amount of money he put in to it. The guy i bought the truck from put less then 30,000km on the truck , im the 3rd owner.
heres a pic from today finally retired then 4runner and put insurance on this, new tires and rims
