Laughing about the smile thing..Having to work with customers is one of the toughest jobs there is. Done that myself.
I was planning on doing my head, seems like we are at similar steps in builds.

got it all put together this weekend I checked the clearance between my pistons and valves that was a lot bigger than what I expected my new remaned head must have not been decked any, there was almost an 1/8 of and inch between the intake valve and the piston and the exhuast never even touched the putty? (yes I had the valve lash set to what the 261 rv cam instructions said .007 on intake and .009 on exhaust.)....I got all the things put back on except the EGR that I will be blocking off I just installed the stock back plate on the head so all I have to block off is the EGR port on the head and intake speaking of that has any one ever installed a wet No2 kit and plumed it to the egr block off on the intake? not saying I was going to it justlooks like a good place for it it would act as an injector and squirt more fuel plus the No2 into the intake kinda like the 7th injector kit for the taco's.
I found out that with the 20r intake I have to run a electric fuel pump because the way the thermostat housing is made unless they make a thermostat housing that points to the pasengerside of the vehicle instead of the front....I droped the distrubuter in, got the manifold put on.
my to get list is much smaller at least the engine part of it
EGR Block offs
spark plugs
air filter
2 oil changes and filters
misc vacuum caps
heater core (then I will finish my interior too!)
carb adapter 22r carb to 20r intake
carb rebuild kit (probably dont need it. but)
fuel pump
edit:11/21/11 I forgot to mention belts and radiator hoses
then I am ready to here this sucker run.

I dont know what a wet number 2 kit is so I am not much help there. You are getting close on hearing it run. We are just in about the same spot on builds. Think you are a few steps ahead of me. I will get mine toghter this weekend, but depending on how the weather holds out is when I will ber able to get it in the truck.

alright I didnt do much over the long weekend went fishing the last warm day of the year......did awsome. I tried to put a tilt column out of an 84 4runner in my 82 figured out quick that it was not gonna work if I wanted to keep my current ignition. the tilt column has a bearing on both ends of the ignition and the strait column only has one on the wheel side of the ignition, the key sets would not swap out and the ignition on the tilt column was busted and there was more wires than on the 82....I guess I will live with the solid column man tilt would have been nice. I got the EGR and the air induction block off plates made (3/16 stainless) they polished up easy and did not warp with the plasma cutter . I just misdrilled the holes on the plate that goes on the back of the head so I have to inlarge them some and I will be good to go.
I have to get a new pa....p....pi....bearing (that bearing that goes in the back of the crank.....Im lost for words.......) then I will be able to drop the engine back in the truck
still need to get a carb rebuild kit and carb adapter maybe in a month or so I will have it going (Christmas in coming up!)

Fishing sounds good. Didnt get in near as much as I would of liked to of this year. Maybe next year.
Never got to run a plasma cutter. That would be a nice little toy. The EGR makes a big mess. Dont blame you on blocking it off.
You rebuilding your carb yourself? I have adjusted them, but never have done a Toyota carb. Just wondering what I might get myself into.

Here are a few pics of the inside work I have been doing (fiber glassed dash pad, painted gauge cluster, door panels and head liner to ho around the sunroof) my first time working with vinyl have to say I am very happy with the way it turned out, it took the tincan sound out of the cab!
