daveguys 1982 short box build
hello, this is the first time posting on this site and i excited to be apart of the toyota cult. i just sold my built ranger/b4000 for a 1982 toyota short bed. the truck has alot of rust on the cab and is collapsing into the body lift . i bought the truck knowing that the cab was bad but the more i wheel it the more it settles. my buddy has a brother inlaw in Saskatchewan that has a 82 cab that hes bring down in December. so for now i just have to be patient. but for now i have been working on the suspension. i want the truck to be low and flexible. so far i have taken out the cj leafs up front along with front mounting brackets. i replaced the front mounts with the trail gear mount and the leafs with trail gear 3 inch leafs.( ive already taken two leafs out of the front). the rear has 64 inch chevies with the double shackle. k i dont know who how anyone can run it this way, every time i go down a slope off camber it unloads and i have to throttle hard the keep it from getting squirly. also my drives side reverses every time. Ive got them strapped up now so they don't but that's the next thing on the list. the guy i bought it from said it had 529s but im not buying it. i still cant use 5th on the high way with 36s. its bobbed 14 inches and has a home made falt deck. ill get some pictures up tomorrow.
thanks dave,

brace that front spring hanger some more...welds look sketchy.
I would also watch going down a hill nose first, that style shackle mount design on the end of the rear spring can make it feel like the suspension is going to unload.
usually when people install 63" chevy springs they move the rear mount back on the frame..chevy spring swap FAQ
cab rust looks like typical first gen stuff...truck has a lot of potential

ocdropzone, i plan on doing alot more bracing on that front hanger, i just got it mounter so i can drive it. oh and the daul shackle was set by the guy before me, im planing on moving the rear mount back a couple inches. and the rust is sucky, when it rains i get soaked, the passenger side floar is the tub of a wheel barrel and is popping up. the truck is a bueaty and i love it but its gonna be alot of work.

so i went and did alittle hiking/wheeling today and the jump from normal driving to 4 low is ridiculous. im guessing its got 4;1 low range gears and 437 axle gears. so i went and picked up some 529s so i can use 5th on the highway. i only have one ring and pinion so im looking for another set. oh and ive been reading up on propane swaps.
thanks dave,
