Thanks, my girls are only 9 and 6, but I had an 84 jeep cj7, an 83 k5 blazer, another 83 Toyota, a 92 jeep xj, and out of all of them Toyota are just the perfect size and I think most capable and they love them. I'm only 5'6", so it's a perfect size. Honesty I didn't even know I had bought an SR5 until I got it home and started cleaning it up. I saw it from 50ft. away, and offered the guy 600 for it, without the bed and he took it. After sitting for 4 years in his yard, I put a new battery and it fired right up, no problem

Yeah I have had two K5 blazers (73' and a 83') and I had a 76' CJ5, but I like the Toyota's the best. I really like the 1st Gen pickups, but they don't quite have enough legroom for me ( I'm 6'-1). Maybe if I found the right set of donor seats to replace my bench seat it would be more comfortable. So far my 4 runner is my favorite 4x4 I've owned.
Man you got a steal on your truck for $600! My neighbor has a 79' almost the same color yellow as yours I'd love to get a hold of, but she still wants to much (1200) for the kind of shape it's in. Can't wait to see your truggy transformation!

Yea even tho it doesn't have a bed I thought it was a great deal. The guy I got it from couldn't figure out why it was just constantly dying on him and he did plugs, wires, distributor and that didn't help. So he then had a new fuel pump and fuel filter put and it was still dying so he had someone do timing chain and all that good stuff and it kept doing it. Finally, he pulled the tank and found that the tank was all rusted up and was causing his fuel filter to clog up and shut it down. So I bought it without a fuel tank and am now having a fuel cell built by my buddy who owns a fabrication shop. It's going to be a 12 gallon cell out of aluminum. Not bad for 50 bucks

Thanks, he told me he was going to work on it last night after dinner around 6 and he calls me and tells me to go by the shop around 8:30 and it was completed. That's all I had left to get the girls truck going. Hopefully, I'll have it plumbed in today and running. Next on the agenda would be running some brake lights and turn signals

Yea it actually is a 12 gallon fuel cell, I just got the dimension off a tank online and he made it exactly like the one I found. I just installed it temporarily on the truck to get it running and after a few times of it shutting on and off it ran like a new truck...really smooth and no smoking. Now my buddy is going to weld me a flat sheet on the frame to bolt down my tank and start bolting down the rear seats. I'll be doing the lights after and then starting on the cage. I feel like a kid in the month of December, waiting for Christmas to come...

I had bought some 33x12.5x15s for this build for the meanwhile while I saved up for some 35 or 37s, and I found a set of 315 75 16 bfg all terrains for for 200. Not what I want but will be good enough for now. My grandpa is a hoarder and had some Isuzu wheels sitting at his house and he gave them to me for doing a fuel pump and valve cover gaskets on his truck. The tires have about 75% tread and are 10 ply so they should last a good while. So far I'm about 1000 into my build, after I pick up these tires. Trying to stay under 3500 with roll cage and gears and duals eventually. I do a lot of bartering and selling so I make money doing that. Out of my pocket I'm actually only about 200 into this build

Actually I'm looking forward to getting some body damage so I'm building an internal cage , cutting out the back of the cab and taking the cage outback right before the rear tires. It will be a wrap around to make sure the kids are extremely safe. We have some crazy rock trails here in Texas. I'm going to take a pic of the rear of the truck and edit it for the look I'm going for on the cage.
Also I got the tires and sold them on the wheels I had today for 450, so I went and bought some 35" Goodyear MTR today should be here tuesday

Thanks. If I don't try and budget build the wife would kill me. The fuel cell did come out awesome, for 2 hours of work not to bad. Luckily , my buddy owns his own business. He will be doing a lot of the work for since I don't know how to weld yet. I will be learning on this project, I been putting it off way to long already.
Today I finally picked up some 15x10 wheels for 60 bucks, I wish they were 15x8s but they will do for now. Will post pic soon

I'm going to try and fit the 35s on this truck with no lift. I've seen people put 37s and no lift so I think 35s would be good. What do you guys recommend as far as the steering? From what I understand u need at least 3" lift for crossover steering setup correct. Just trying to come up with other ideas as far as better springs upfront to not lift it more than 1.5" or no lift at all. Just want good flex, if possible

I feel the progress is good considering I have only owned it for a week now. More to come guys, hopefully have it completed the way I want by the summer so we can get some action shots of this thing.
What do u guys think 4 link rear or Chevy springs? I can do both for really cheap, what would u do?

Looks great. Depends on where your at the type of wheeling you plan to do, Id say Chevy leafs, but if your gonna do alot of rock crawling 4 link. Chevys are a less $$$ option, especially if you got a buddy who does metal work.
