not to hijak the thread but im in a dilema I have BFG AT and for some reason the ones I own current , last set and the set before that have all been a huge pain to balance "285/75/16" wtf so anyhow I have the opportunity to purchase smae size set of TG's but after looking on the spec sheet they are quite a bit smaller than what the given 285 size is.

Nitto TGs also come in a 295/75/16 if you think its gonna be too short for you in a 285 size

295 is like 33.4 diameter and 11.6 in width.

Check ebay, Dicount Tire direct has an ebay store and they seem to always have a set for sale and they offer free shipping on them too but no to sure if free shipping to canada

Im not running any nittos yet, was considering the 295's to make up for the difference in size btwn my BFG AT's in 285 vs. the Nittos AT's in 285. But on a side note my BFG's still have a great deal of life and I just sold another pair of them and I really need to replace my offroad wheelset which other than the limited wheels doenst exist. I was also looking at the Cooper STT's. SO ˟˟˟˟ just dunno what to do I got rid of my 285 SSR's because they were not my ideal overland roadtrip/expedtition tire. And now have naked rims begging me for some rubber.

I tried to buy some in Canada last year and couldn't find them. I contacted Toyo, who owns Nitto, and they said they were not selling them in Canada, and at that time had no plans to do so. This was about 15 months ago, so things could have changed since then. I did find some places that sell Nitto tires, but they didn't have the TGs. I ended up getting them online from Discount, got them shipped to a Washington state address and drove down to pick them up. 265/75R16 were about CA$550 for all 4.

So on the trail, the Nittos do GREAT! The stiffer sidewall has definitely been a noticeable improvement vs. the Yokohamas and I still smile every time I see the agressive side lugs on my Terra Grapplers. Not only are they a sweet lookin' tire, but they've continued to do very well both on-road and off-road. Here's some shots of my '99 4Runner before I sold it.







And here's a shot of my new (used) rig now running those Terra Grapplers (Discount Tire charged me $120 to flip-flop a total of 8 tires - 4 from the '99 and 4 from the '97 - and then spin-balance everything up. OUCH!)

I got a sweet deal on 4 tires and rims (tires had 1000 miles or so) from a local ttora friend. I got the ~32 265/75r16 size.

So far they are great. A little stiffer than the non-AT geolanders that I had and much quieter. I cant wait to get these offroad.

Hey Eric,

how are they in the rain in your opinion? I am not overly pleased with my Michelin ATs, but they have about 80k on them. The thread is still good, but I was hydroplaning like crazy this morning.
I know this is not normal weather, but I've noticed it before that they don't seem to be the best in wet weather.

Just saw this thread and am an NTG convert.

Christian, check the Nitto site. Some of the TG's are LT rated, others like mine are passenger car rated, so you can get the heavier duty construction in some sizes.

Arjan, TG's are exceptional in the rain on-road. They have a clear path for water shedding and have standard sipes. I've been driving through a deluge today with record floods forecast. No problems at all. I can't comment about mud, but they've been good on rocks, dirt and especially sand aired down to 15-20.

I will be getting some 16x8 landcruiser wheels from a junkyard this week, and will need 16" tires.
I think I'll go that route, I'll have to see if I can get them up here somehow.
I am a Dutch citizen and crossing into the States is an hassle to say the least nowadays.
Ironically I only live 15 minutes from a border crossing, and haven't been there in years.

They're good in the rain, no hydroplanning even with all the water on the roads the last couple of days.

I can bring some tires back across the line if you want to buy them online. I go down about once a month or so, and usually go through Mission on my way anyway.

Thanks for the offer Eric, I appreciate it. I probably will buy a ticket to enter the States again (6 bucks, good for 3 months).
In Sumas I usually seem to get the older guy, and his computer and typing skills leave to be desired. What the younger guys enters in the computer in 5 minutes, takes him about half an hour. I've never seen him move fast.
It will be a good occasion to visit some family in Lynden right away too, haven't been there in a long time either.

Factory siping on the TGs is a big plus as they have good turn in bite on ice and snow.

My Yokos are doing the same thing and I bought them from Discount Tires in Silverthorne CO. I have a year on them and they have been rotated every 5K. They ride like crap compared to Revo's that they replaced. Saved 200$+ but wish I would have spent the extra $$$$. Going tomorrow to get them re-balanced. Hope they smooth out some. They do kick ass in the deep snow though.
