Opinions requested on new wheels!

hi all! hope you had a good new year's.

Here's what's up: I'm thinking about doing a tire/wheel online pkg purchase and I can't make up my mind which wheels I like best. I've always loved the Outlaws, but the black steelie look is also nice.

Opinions on these two wheels only is most appreciated. They'll be going on the '88 Runner in avatar. (most likely with BFG A/T's or possibly the Nitto TG's, 31 or 33/10.5 on 15 or 16, x8 or x10) (still many decisions to make)
(Use: 80% pavement, 20% beach, gravel/dirt trails, big mud puddles)

I used to have the outlaw II's on my truck with 31's. Those things are light compared to my 285s on 16" steel rims. Not sure if that helps any but thoughi would throw that out there.

I would go with the black steelies because they will "clean out" any debris as the outlaws might not due to no holes.

The Outlaws would look cool if they were black...

I'd go with an aluminum rim to save some wieght, I'm not a fan of that outlaw. Watch your backspacing too. Go with the BFG 33's and a different rim.

Find some nice 15" Toyota alloys as they look better than both of those.
I bought a set local for $100 with center caps and they were flawless.

Sorry but that is the best pic of them I got.

y'no i like a lot of the oem yota wheels, particularly the new 5 spoke polished 17's on the newest 4runners, but all the oem's have what i think is called a very positive offset, meaning the front face of the wheel is fairly close to the rim edge.

i definitely want the negative offset so i have the wider stance without going to a 12.5 tire, and that deep lip. the 15x10s i have now are very deep and make the 10.5 tires stick out about 2" past the stock fender.

i personaly think those rims are too wide, if your tire is that narrow, the rim shouldnt be the same width as the tire.

you're right, i think they are too wide as well, but i bought them used together and thought they were 15x8s til i measured them myself. 10.5 on a 10" is an easy bead breaker i believe.

i am thinking if i stick with a 15x10 or 16x10 (which could allow me a caliper upgrade mod in the future) i'd need to step up to 11.5 wide.

right now i'm thinking 32x11.5x16 if such animal exists.
possibly leaning toward the bridgestone revo's. i've had BFG A/T's in 235/75 and these 31x10.5s and they locked up in the rain on me twice, so i want a better rating for wet roadholding.

Id go with the black american steel racing wheel. I dont care for all that polishing crap that is needed from time to time. Leave the shiny wheels for the "useless ashpalt pounding" trucks out there. And god, there's enough of them...

I would go with the Black Steelies , love the way those look. I would get a pair if i could justify it. Think i will just get some black duplicolor wheel paint instead.

i do like the soft 8's! i just happened to see an ad on my local craigslist, someone is selling BFG MTs 285/75-16 on the black soft 8's for $500! that's a good deal but i don't want MT's. (I seek better traction on wet pavement)

Here's the link for anyone else interested:

disclaimer: i don't know this person, just sharing the link.

i currently have the outlaw II's and i like them a lot. i have never been a big fan out the outlaws, but everyone in my area has the 767's and the soft 8's and im just sick of seeing them. honestly my choice wheel right now would be the mojave's.

Im actually planning on painting my wheels like a gunmetal color so they look different then most, i think that will look great with the white runner with black top.

the wheels that came with my runner were outlaw II's (or replicas) and some prev. owner painted them gunmetal, they actually looked great.

i sold them with the 235/75s mounted when i bought these 31/10.5s on these chrome steelies. they were 15x7 or i'd have kept them. I will sell these mounted too when i finally get to making up my freakin' mind on what new to get.

i think i like these ION ALLOYs i pictured above. they have 8 big holes like a soft 8, but the polished lip of an alloy wheel.

a friend suggested i get a soft 8 and put snap-on chrome trim rings on and have the same look for half the price. i could only roll my eyes at her.
