BFG A/T's lose balance every 3K

Alignment and rotations on schedule, mounted on OEM TRD rims (width?), 38 psi (book is 35), 265/75-16.

My guys at America's Tire Co. have chased these four times in 13K miles and cheerfully rebalance. They usually have to move around about 3 oz. per after doing a low/high rim/tire runout mount.

It's good for about 3K when they all change again. I'm about to ask them for a fresh set under warranty and start over, this is becoming annoying for a brand with high expectations and price.

No, I won't trade for Nitto T/G's yet. I'll give BFG another chance.

i work at a tire company and when we get bfg a/t's, i honestly hate it. it's the tire itself that is the problem... getting another set isn't going to fix it.

i've noticed this with the BFG brand in general. they always seem to need rebalancing after a few thousand miles.

and in my experience, i dont think they will give you a fresh set under warranty... good luck though

I had a serious issue with the set I have now - sometimes as soon as I'd hit the highway after leaving the tire store for a balance I'd think "the vibration seems better, but it still isn't right".

After getting balanced 4 times in 4000 miles I was back for the fifth time and I was watching the tires on the balancer. One was SERIOUSLY out of round. And the guys ignored it and were about to mount it back on the truck when I got the manager and told him I could see it pulsing up and down from 30 feet away. He had them put it back on the balancer and they reluctantly agreed that the appearant out of round "might" be the problem. It took some prodding but they warrantied it through BFG and a week later I had a new tire. That was the problem - I haven't been back for a balance since.

So yes, I'm disappointed that such an expensive tire was basically trash.

Whether it is relevent or not - the Nitto TG's on my F350 have been perfect since day one.

I'd try to get a fresh set if I were you. I have owned 4 sets of BFG m/t's and 3 sets of BFG A/T's. I had only one problem, with one tire in all those miles. Personally I can't wait for my Toyo's M/T's to wear out so I can go ahead and get BFG's again.

I just priced a new set of BFGs and Nittos out the door with replacement warranty at Discount Tire and it was $1006 for the BFGs and $858 for the Nittos;I think I'll be going with another set of Nittos.

I had issues with belts breaking(BFG willing to warranty them) in my BFG KO's on 2 of 5 and 1 that kept thrown weights. All in all though they were dam good tires and lasted forever once I got the broken belts figured out.

do all 4 tires go out of balance, if so it may be the rims dont fit good on the tires, or you may have a bent rim.

Did I do something wrong? For Nitto TG's, valve stems, and replacement certificates my "out the door" price on their website was $628

Yes,that's for 265/75s and everything out the door. My first set cost me just under $700 for everything so Nittos and tires in general have gotten pricey.

Mounting and Balancing would cost about $100... so $728ish? Shipping is free. Not trying to start ... just wanted to make sure I wasn't forgetting anything

The D load rated Nittos from Discount are $158.

Tires $632 (4)

Environmental Fee (State Required) $1.50 $6.00
Tire Disposal Fee $2.00 $8.00
Valve Stems, Lifetime Rotations FREE
Installation & Lifetime Spin Balancing $15.00 $60.00

Subtotal $706.00

CO 7.72% Sales Tax $49.41 (ok,you do save this if you order on-line)

= $755.41

+ Certificates @$21/each = $84

Out the door = $845.89

What did I do wrong? Are you sure you are including the certificates?

Yes,this is buying them through the store but I do like having somebody else rotate my tires and lifetime balancing is nice too.

D load rated Nittos: $135 * 4 = $540 http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...il.do?pc=40193
Certificates: $19 * 4 = $76
Valve Stems: $3 * 4 = $12
Shipping: Free
Sub Total: $628

Mounting/Balancing: $100 out the door at most

So $728ish all said and done...

I have never had a problem with BFGs. I keep them rotated often and balance from time to time but no issues getting out of balance. We have run BFGs since the 80s and have always gotten good wear and mileage (alot of miles on a set) out of them.

I think that BFGs are overrated. I much rather keep my cheap off brand wild country tires that last the same, have great traction, and road manners.

Any of you guys running balancing beads??:

www.innovativebalancing.com

www.counteractbalancing.com

You can also use bb's if you know the correct weight to use.

They work really good on my 3/4T Cummins powered rigs.

Thank you very much and the tire price is the significant diff so I'm going to see if the store will match the direct price and they have done this before for me about 6 years ago so I'm going to try and get $90 knocked off which would make my total alot closer to $750 out the door.

Have you tryed getting them Roadforce balanced? Roadforce balancers are the best it cost alittle more but it assures that the tire is matched on the rim at the correct spot. I had my fair share of balancing tires at Goodyear, Tire Kingdom and Tires Plus and bfgs are always a chore.
