All right ladies and gentlemen, heres my story of the wonderfull evap adventure......97 t100 3.4l v6
So I just moved to Las vegas and boom a week later I get a check engine light. Started with all these codes and Im no mechanic but I do know how to read with a lil electrical background and some common sense. I cant get the truck registered cause of this prob, than last night boom problem fixed so let me tell yah if you get any of these codes check each component for working order, the purge valve and the vsv valve can be fired off of a 9 volt battery to see if they work. If any of these valves do not work, do not replace them, do yourself a favor and just buy the charcoal canister online from toyota (dealer direct parts) $250. It comes with new valves on it, I bought seperate ones and cant return them. booh hoo. If your rig has over 100,000 mi its do anyways. Dont try to clean it its pointless, works but stupid. Replace all vaccum hoses (theres not that many) really cheap. If you still are having codes pull all data sheets from local auto parts store most have them. This will tell you how to check voltages and resistances from computer with key on vs. key off. Going back to what I said though, if you replaced this stuff new for a total of 300 or so there is only three options......gas cap, vapor pressure sensor or computer. Computer is always last option very rare. Gas cap a few bucks.......now to the nitty gritty. VAPOR PRESSURE SENSOR..........dont waste your time looking for this part Toyota discontinued it. T100 are rare nation wide. I gambled a bit and swapped in from a Tacoma and it works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I didnt tell Toyota so shhhhhh, they wouldnt work with me on paying for it. A new one is $230 I got one online for $25. So long story short if there is anything wrong with the evap system and your vehicle has over 100,000 JUST REPLACE THE SYSTEM not expensive and your vehicle will run a hell of alot better. I hope this helps cause i live on here and did everything ppl said and nothing worked. AND REMEMBER DON NOT BLOW AIR INTO ANY OF YOUR PARTS especially sensor, they are designed for a certain amount of air if not you will RUUUUIIINNN them, hope this helps
