alternator upgrade issues.

So recently I upgraded my failing stock 5vz alternator for a new high output. The new alternator has an under drive pulley (smaller diameter) now to get proper tension the alt casing rubs on the steering column. anyone else run into this before? Wondering if going with a shorter belt would solve the problem, anyone done this and have a belt part number they would be willing to give out??

I had cut the end off of my lower bracket and redrilled the mounting hole where it attaches onto the block. I took about 1-1/4" off of it. The adjusting screw just clears the plastic cover over the rag joint.
