1996 3.4 2wd auto engine into a 1991 3L 4x4 manual

I need help figuring out the basic needs to make it run properly. i dont have to worry about emissions or anything because im building it for mud racing in saskatchewan canada, a tach and oil pressure would be a bonus. What wiring do i have to do? i have a complete doner 4runner and i need to use the 1996 2wd auto ecu in the 91 4x4 5speed 4runner. any help would be very much apprecitated.

Search search search. You must help yourself. We are here when you have specific questions that haven't been answered 100 times. Start with the sticky threads at the top of the forum and work your way through them. I did the swap almost solely on these.

I can't find any one that keeps the auto 2wd ecu, everyone gets a manual 4x4 and then rewires it. This isn't an option for me though.

Have a look at what I'm doing with my notes here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/68172725/89%...100%20auto.xls

the 96 4runner has the same plugs, some wires may be a little different but this should point you in the right direction... Do you have the EWD's for both your 4runners?

Good luck!

Andrew.

EWD = Electrical Wiring Diagram. You can buy a 24hr subscription to the Toyota Tech Info System to download the diagrams and repair manual for your applications here: https://techinfo.toyota.com/

Example of an EWD: http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/1996/SIL/fsm/wiring.html

The majority of the ECU connections will come from the engine harness (3 of the 4 for a 96 ECU), and one will come from the dash harness (or at least that's all I've ever called it). The connectors themselves are labeled something like E5, E6, E7, E8, E9, E10, E11, E12 based on your EWD.
