As for flushing, Make sure you get as much of the "flush" water out before you add the new coolant, maybe even flush with a gallon of Deionized water. Crank the engine a few times for the water pump to turn and get the old crap out.

Water in the coolant system is something that is frequently overlooked, a lot of people suggest using distilled water, I thought that water that is Deionized and filtered with reverse osmosis would be better. Read the label on the gallon jug. Distilation does not remove dissolved salts as well as deionization and reverse osmosis. The more salts in the system, the more corrosive the water will be. Out on the west coast this is of real concern, water that is delivered to the home can be very hard and have massive amounts alkalinity and hardness, these things will eat freeze plugs in no time.
