V6 manual to I4 swap compatibility

Not exactly what I had in mind, but it's a bit of a long story so here goes...

I had a nice 87 with a 22RE that I was planning on doing a swap to a VW diesel. Unfortunately that 4runner burned in the wildfire outside of Boulder a couple of months ago. So I am again looking for a decent 86-88 4runner to do the diesel swap on. For some reason, nice ones with the 22re engine are rare, while quite a few nice ones with the V6 are available. The VW diesel swap kits are all for the 22re's tranny.

So here's the question. I have a decent 22re 5sp tranny (was to go into my old 87 at the time of the engine swap), which survived the fire. Since with the engine swap I will already be fab'ing new engine mounts, what additional work would I be getting into to start out with a V6 manual 4runner? I have the 22re's 5sp tranny. What other changes/parts would I need.

Basically it is as though I would be swapping in a 22RE for the V6 (although I'd be using a diesel engine instead). I know the manual trannies are different (but I have that). What about the xfer case, are those the same between V6 and 22RE? I was also thinking tranny mounts, linkages and maybe driveshaft lengths (hopefully notdriveshaft routing).

I thought perhaps some here have done this swap, one way or the other and might be able to tell me what needs to be changed.

TIA

Thanks
