22re to 3vze swap
Hey guys. I'm new here although i have been lurking around the forums for a little while.
I have a 1990 4runner with no engine but had originally had a 22re in it. I also have a 1989 4runner with a 3vze in it. The 3vze is still strong but the truck is beyond repair. I would like to pull the engine from the 89 and put it in the 90 and then when I have the money to afford a nice rebuilt 22re put that in there and toss the 3vze. What all will I need. Can I use the same transmission thats currently in the 90 or will I have to swap them. Will I need to change out the entire wiring harness or will it be fairly simple to just hack the 90 harness. Maybe will I need to change the ECU. Is there anything I'm leaving out.
Please don't just tell me to throw out the 3vze and just get a 22re or some other engine. I know the 3vze is pretty much junk but it's available and I currently can't afford to buy a different engine.
Any help is greatly appreciated

You will have to change:
Frame mounts (on the frame side, which means welding new mounts)
Transmission
Drivelines
Shifters
Crossmember
ECU
Wiring harness
Instrument cluster
ALL exhaust
Coil/Ignitor, and all up front wiring as well
ALL accessories
Power steering lines, both pressure and return
Radiator/Fan blade/Fan clutch
The list goes on and on. NOTHING is shared between the two engine setups. Its not even remotely worth it to swap a 3.0 in place of a 22RE. Find a 22RE to put in there.
Once you go V6, you can't just bolt a 22RE back in.

Thanks for the info. I have actually decided to not go that route. I decided to part out the truck and get as much as I can from it and use what I get out of it to buy a 22re.
Sorry kiyobrown. The console was torn out years ago but if I still had it I would sell it to you.
