thanks rattlewagon.

Looking at those pics I started to think about the 1998 Memorial weekend trip to Moab in my Sami.....some nut cases killed a cop and the cops evacuated the town of Bluff(~300 people) and had roadblocks up when I was scheduled to go thru so I chose to detour on the north side of Bluff and take a lonier highway west and then south and re-connect south of Mexican Hat. I was worried about getting sniper fire from those 3 survivalist guys. Based on the bones being found years later more easterly of Bluff it appears I made a good choice to go west.
Remember....back in 98 there was not much internet....no google yet......no smart phones.....mostly pagers. I was using things called "roadmaps" made from paper to make my escape route around Bluff.

Here was my front end, it looks like the Wagoneer Dana 44 was a lot easier to deal with. This is 2005.

File is big so you can see the axle.

I have not noticed my TG arm moving around at all but then again I haven't really beat on it off-road either.

Lucky you

Anyways, this is a general update of how my cooling system is working with this tiny two wheel drive 4 cylinder radiator..... been watching the ScanGauge 2 every day during the hot summer days and stays at 193 or 195 sometimes 197 and 198 is the hottest it has ever gone in the one year since this truck has been on the road with this smaller radiator but yesterday when it was 119 degrees Fahrenheit outside I actually saw it go up to 207 degrees ......never saw that before.

My friend also noticed in his 1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport 3L engine with a new radiator that that I helped put in ....so he noticed his temperatures increasing up to about 207 degrees similar to mine.

Yesterday was an amazingly hot day, 4 people died in the city because of the Heat from hiking or bicycling

My onboard Factory OEM temperature gauge read normal, straight across, halfway in the middle, temperatures during the whole event yesterday.

Sent by my Samsung Note 4

Additional things I noticed on the super hot Sunday afternoon yesterday, I noticed that my trucks acceleration was less, the heat was so bad the air was so hot that it affected my engine performance .....wow.

Also heard that they turned a flight away from Phoenix from Houston Texas..... the flight was diverted from Phoenix "due to the weather" they said.

Also noticed my transmission fluid temperature increased a similar amount as the water temperature, the hottest I have ever seen the tranny fluid temp is 180 in the last three or four years since I installed the ScanGauge 2 but yesterday it reached 189 or thereabouts.... and this is just driving in typical City traffic.
That is with the AC on and with the transmission in overdrive. I turned off the AC and turned off Overdrive and just driving 30 or 35 mile-per-hour City traffic the temperatures started to decrease which is expected.

Is there a smaller radiator out there you can try??
I think you're good. Still far from "boiling over". ;-)

Some of the motorcycle radiators are smaller......

I'm not 100% sure the water really went up to 207 because the scangauge2 was baking in the sun just before this event. That was a non linear response anyways...outside temps 10 degrees hotter than usual and such a large swing from the stable curve.

Time for a new thermostat seeing as this one is 15 years old.
Here's the 180 degree new one that was in my "timing belt kit"

On another note......just ordered a 9378 Harrop e-locker for my front FJ60 and also RCV axles/birfs.
Having the electric locker up front means I can choose open or fully locked.
Much easier on my steering system when I'm offroading it.

Here's a copy/paste from one of my install links on an FJ60 open front end so it's similar to mine.
I have an open carrier just like the one shown and a 9378 like the one in the background.

Thank you Ward

I like where this is heading, too. Ultimately, it will be a trip to Moab with friends again.....looks like Oct 7ish
I should be getting the Harrop elocker Wednesday according to tracking.

In the meantime, I just received this......

Chromemoly rcv shafts....nice finish on them......lasered in name. Mine are for a FJ60 of course
so the long shaft is identical to the Pick-ups. The short shaft shown here is 2.00" longer than
the pick-ups and that's about the only difference.

The splines appear to be rolled...they are raised up taller than the metal on the right.

Not shown but RCV included a 14 oz tube of synthetic CV grease in the box.
This is a very tacky, sticky grease.

On this greasy section, the spline count is upped to 30 and the star(race) is forged
from leftover pieces of crashed spaceships that our scientists chose to call 300M
material. I read it on the internet so I know there's some truth to it.

cool.

Rolled splines on the outer bell end.

2 inner hub gears were thrown in FOR FREE. 110 value.

These are them. They slipped over beautifully. Made from 4340 alloy steel.
4340 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy steel known for its toughness
and its ability to attain high strengths in the heat-treated condition.
