I know the turnoff for rattlesnake though.
Cool. I just have heard a few stories about rattlesnake and would not want to make a snow trip my first trip up there! We'll see you on the 27th.

I also have a guy I work with that may come, but he is coming from Ogden and wants to just meet at the pass parking lot. He'll come via toole.

Which one, there's a couple of parking areas out there.

Shows how much I know about CB's. I didn't know they needed to be tuned

I'd try Sound Warehouse on State St. or an off-road parts place.

I just read this, and I think I'm going to stick to hand-helds for now.

Please post up if you find someone that will do it on the cheap

I've been reading and I think I'm going to go with the Cobra 19 Ultra III unit. It's slim enough to fit right into where the ash/coin tray is.

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=4642484

~$35. I think the antenna's are going to be in the ~$20 range. So for ~$60, I can get a good set up. It has been suggested that they should be tuned, but I think I'll see how they perform stock.

EDIT: Also found a shop locally that carries firestik, so might just end up getting everything from them. http://www.rightchannelradios.com/ if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the input and the link, 4biker.

CBs don't have to be tuned if you are using a good antenna and a good radio for being in a tight group. You might not be able to reach out very far. A POS antenna I had would not reach 1/2 mile. I got it tuned and it worked up to 2 miles.
watch where you mount your antenna. You don't want to hide it, it should be abve your rig.
There is (or was) a radio shop by the Fling J in Ogden off 21st street and I-15.

I think he was meaning the large parking area Farthest east, However I can call him to find out or change where we meet him. Not even sure if he is going to come. He just doesn't want to drive all the way to Eagle Mountain then back out there if he is coming from Tooele. This should be fun in the snow, it's supposed to snow most of the week. Hopefully it won't be snowing on the 27th.

Tuning the CB is refering to SWR this is the Standing Wave Ratio. It has to do with the length of the coax and antenna. It is adjusted in a couple of ways by adjusting the antenna length, or some antennas have a coil adjustment that will set the SWR. With modern auto radios and antennas it probably isn't necessary to tune the SWR. It was a bigger problem with CB base stations and large tower antennas. Basically it will affect your maximum output power. Yes, get it adjusted at some point, however you will probably be fine for this run.

Just wonderin'! I have been around Washington a bit. Went to school in Portland, OR 20 years ago or so. I actually have some old friends that live out in Bremerton (sp). Havent seen them in 12-13 years. Yeah, most people wouldn't know where the hell Orem is either. Myself I'm originally from Illinois, a little town called Edgewood.

Keep an eye on the thread guys.

I'm keeping an eye on the weather up there. My sister who lives in Eagle Mountain said the area has been pounded by snow with more to come.

If the snow gets/is too bad the run won't happen, I hate to say. I'll keep you all updated, I'll probable run out that way on Christmas to check the area out to make sure it's all good.

Keep your fingers crossed, I want this happen if possible.

Yeah, I live in Orem (obviously) and got almost a foot today, spent the day shoveling! It's supposed to snow again on Christmas Day, but a chance of flurries all week! Hell I wished I lived in Yuma!

Yeah, I heard Happy Valley got pounded last night. SLC wasn't bad at all. It all melted anyway. They said that Christmas day, we're supposed to get the biggest storm of the season.

If this falls through, there is a late January run with the ExPo guys. You will need CB's, though.

That's why I'm keeping an eye on it. I'll either run out there on Christmas or the day after to check it out. then let you all know.

Yeah, I have an extra 300 to 500 Bucks just before Christmas! I'll just return my 3 kids presents! Lol I have actually, in fact I told the wife I was going to, but the cheapest decent one I could find in stock was $469 at Sears thats 500 with tax and I would have to buy it on credit.
