3rd Annual Squaw Ridge/Pardoes Trail: August 4-5, 2012
#42
Well as far as I know, the trail is closed for the summer and we need to figure out a plan B. Pretty much every trail in Eldorado National Forest is shut down, besides the Rubicon, so we need to find somewhere outside of that region. So far a few others and I have though about these:
Bald Mountain: More south near the Fresno area. Don't know much about it, it is short but I heard it's a decent challenge but any high clearance 4x4 can make it.
The only info I found on it. http://www.trails.com/tcatalog_trail...lid=BGS135-007
Niagra Rim Trail: About 20 miles directly south of Squaw ridge in Stanislaus National Forest, up highway 108 in Eagle Meadows. It's a difficult trail, but there are many entrances and exits, making it easy to get around the extreme stuff if need be. I have only been on bits and pieces of it, and it is fun!

If anyone knows more about Bald Mountain, do chime in! No matter what I will take a drive up to Squaw Ridge just before the date to make sure Squaw Ridge is in fact closed.

So it's looking more and more like I'm not gonna be getting that weekend off of work. It just happens to be one of our busiest weekends for the whole summer. At least for that saturday. I'll find out soon enough, but maybe I can get off work saturday at 1 pm and head to wherever the trip is gonna be and meet with the rest of the group.

well, since basically all the trails in that area are closed this year I'm going to say it's pretty much impossible to make this happen. if anyone wants to try and plan something for another trail that IS open, I'd probably be able to make it and would be down for a trip since I haven't been out since last summer.
The tough part is finding a trail that is decent length to make it worth while (2-day trip), while making sure it is still a mild enough trail for those who don't have at least moderately modded rigs. The other trails in the Squaw Ridge/Stanislaus area are probably the only ones that cover this (ex: Deer Valley, Strawberry, etc) but they're all closed! I'd love to try out Eagle Lakes since I've never done it but I think it's too much for stock truck (but how would I know?)
Maybe some others have input for making a trip happen this summer? It would really suck to not have at least one trip this year where the NorCal YotaTech IFS guys get together.

In january I went in a trail outside of georgetown but we stopped at a certain point, definitely not a two day trip where we stopped but I'm pretty sure it extends to hell hole? Or spider lake? I could ask my buddy who took me and see what's out there

Dusy Ershim is way to tough for the type of run ur talking about.
You guys could do Eagle Lakes, its not that bad just make sure you have the lesser built rigs between more capable rigs.
I wouldn't mind leading y'all on a trip in that area including the Meadow Lake area but I'm friggen booked solid!
Come to Sierra Trek and join my run there!

exactly but there is a guided SUV run that is narrated by a dude that knows everything about the area, full of interesting facts and that run is a multi day thang. Of course your free to explore the many trails in the area. huge bond fire and DJ Friday-Saturday. Vendor show, RTI comp, massive raffle, canoe races, full bar, ATV/UTV run, showers, meals supplied...

Mendocino National Forest
I don't think they are super difficult. I have been on some of them and it is a nice area. There are tons of trails to check out and a few lakes to camp at. It's national forest so we can camp anywhere in it.
