A snorkelicious testimonial
For those who are hesitant to get a snorkel for the FJ, I urge you to read this.
Washington state right now is under a flood watch and we have been having heavy rain since Sunday the 2nd.
I left for work about 3 am this morning, and about 1.5 miles form my home where Auburn Way South has the onramp to highway 18 I noticed a police car sideways sitting past the street.
He must have been getting ready to warn people to what I was about to encounter.
Underneath that overpass it floods quite often when we get rain this hard.
It was dark, and I did not see the small lake in time, and I hit it at about 25+ miles per hour.
The rig slowed down pretty quickly but tracked straight, but I had a wave wash up over the hood and windshield.
I could not see anything for a bit, and the area I had to cross like this was a good 60' or so.
As I got into shallower water, I waved at the officer.
Now had my air intake still been in the fenderwell, I would have sucked up some huge amounts of water.
Seeing that wave come over the hood was a little freaky, I had never been in water that deep before.
But I just smiled as the snorkel intake was well above the danger zone.
I bought the snorkel mainly for dust control during the summer months up where I go off roading, I had not really planned on using it for water while out off roading.
Little did I know that it would save my engine in the asphalt jungle less than two miles from my home.
I encountered a few other large washes like this on the way into work from streets having their storm drains clogged.
Sign me a believer in snorkels.

Looks like they could have used a snorkel too.

Yep, just got an email from my nephew at Coast Guard Station Gray's Harbor, he is having fun..I just wish the pictures came through..
The waves in my pool are going over the deck, the winds are cool. I am just hoping the tree I hate in the front yard goes down.
Corey cool about your snorkel. The '05+ Taco owners are still PO'ed at Safari and ARB for screwing us and not making one for us...

That's what I was thinking too. He was probably ready to give you grief for not paying attention and was a little disappointed when you drove out unscathed. Good job and I'm not one step closer to buying a snorkel for my beast.

I tried to multi quote a few of you, but for some reason I get a blank template in this section, and not the quotes.
Todd, it was an easy commute home, the rain has slowed down, hardly any standing water on the freeway.
Joe, I would have loved to have had the digicam running in MPEG mode and gotten a video of that.
OC, I am curious if the FJ one would work at all.
If you are near a shop that has one, it might be worth holding it up to your fender since our engines are basically the same.
Bug the main Safari guy too.
I wrote him a few times before the FJ one was released.
The form is at the very bottom of the page.

Now that's a testimonial! I think you just saved yourself $8,000 for a long-block plus installation labor and maintained the warranty intact (replacement engine carries separate, shorter parts warranty). Glad it worked as designed, very cool writeup, thanks.

Corey, Probably one of the best mods for up here right now. I can't count how many mini lakes I drove through today to get to work. This weather is a mother.
OCdrop. They've taken a pounding out there on the coast. I know Astoria is donw hard right now and we can't reach anyone in Coos Bay (active Coastie here). Tell him to stay safe.

That's crazy Corey, I saw the snow the other day, but I didn't know there was that much rain!
I guess I need to turn on the TV once and a while (it's final's week)
maybe a snorkel should be the next raffle (just for those of us who live in the PNW )

Gotta love snorkels.
I dont have an FJ but one time at paragon ORVP I went in a bit deep and sucked in a wee bit of water into the intake in the T100. I then built my own snorkel just cause I could out of ABS and a safari head Unless the water is 6 feet high it aint getting in.
