Even a stock mini is far from stock. It will have the entire enterior gutted, usually they will take out any stereo or airconditioning. The shocks are all race quality, some of the moving parts are strengthened in the suspension, the gas take is pulled and fuel cell put in its place. Race seats. A full roll cage from front to rear, communications equipment put in.
So, does it show the reliability of the FJ? yes. Is it something that anyone could do to their own FJ? No, professional fabricators would take a couple of months ripping it to pieces.
A lot of it has to do with luck and driving. If the FJ driver hit one more large rock with his wheel he may not of finished at all, but if he took one less driver change he would win. I'm just impressed it finished!!
