Years ago there was a series of magazine articles about off-road lights and they discussed beam pattern vs light brightness. I found the information to be very helpful and utilized the info when I installed my lighting system on my truck. I run 2-130W 6" Daylighter Driving Lights and 2-130W 6" Daylighter Fog Lights in the front. I run 4-150W 6" Daylighter Long Range lights on my rollbar with outward and inward pairs controlled independenly. I run Cibie "Z" beam headlights with 55/65W Halogen bulbs (no longer available-use Hella). I run 2-55W Cibie "35" series rear lights on my rollbar. If I hit all my front lights on during the darkest night it produces daylight and you can drive off-road accordingly. Plan your system and what you want it to do, remember pattern not brightness of lights.

Buy the cheaper light set with the 55/100 then go find 100/130W bulbs, you will save money.

Depending on how much light output you're looking for, I would convert some Hella 500's (or any other cheap H3 reflector) to 35W HID. You can get a DDM Raptor 35W HID conversion kit for $40 (for a PAIR, including ballasts) and you can find Hella 500's for about $50. That's around $100 with shipping for a pair of HID's. get the 4500K or 5000K (but no higher) bulbs and you'll be golden.

I bought Elton's Hella 700FF's and converted them using the DDM 55W HID conversion, their light output is just awesome and I paid about $150 total. It's hard to sneeze at 5000 lumens per bulb

Thats a pretty good idea considering what you would pay for HIDs from lightforce or PIAA.

holy shat......have you converted your headlights at all MASTACOX???? thats some pretty frickin AMAZING light output..and you got A LOT of distance with that setup..so you got Used Hella 700's...replaced em with some 35w HID's..and you're good to go???..im still in awe of that pic..

is there a reason you used the hella 700's?? or were they just readily available???

i know a friend of mine that has a set of hella 500's that he NEVER uses (he thinks you HAVE TO HAVE hella bulbs in them for them to work...he doesnt realize you can replace the bulb with another of the same wattage..and apparently the hella bulbs are hella expensive..LMAO)

im sooo excited now..i need some freaking replacement headlights for my '92 runner first though..

Haha my headlights are actually 2002 reflector headlights with Hella 130/90W bulbs, so they're pretty bright; they barely even show up with the HID's on...

I actually converted the Hellas to 55W HID, they put out about 40% more light than a 35W setup

I wasn't happy with my Hella 500's output, so I decided to upgrade and I went with an HID kit while I was at it. Now I'm happy

O OK..lol..about the only thing i can do to my '92 runner headlights are replace the bulbs with some EXPENSICE ones..then i still wont have much light output.

im gonna get the 500's off of my bud then get ahold of Tofer to get some of his HID conversion stuff..might upgrade to his higher wattage HID's though.

that should help my no light problem though

just ordered a set of lightforce 170s. I dont know if i should have sucked it up and got the HIDs instead but man they are pricey. Anyway if i decide i want something brighter in the future, i can always throw the 170s on the quad.

Those 170s are really nice, if there not bright enough for you, retrofit them with stuff off ebay and you'll still save money over the retail lightforce HIDs.
