1986 efi turbo 4x4 problems

Hi, I'm new to this and need a little help. I bought a 1986 yota turbo 4x4 a few months ago. The guy had taken the turbo off of it but i have all the parts to put it back on. Where can i find the gaskets to go back on it. Also at night when i have the headlights on if i brighten them or turn the right turning signal on (doesnt happen with left one??) the truck will sputter and cut back a second and sometimes the radio and right side passenger tailight will go off and back on Any suggestions on what i need to check for and how to check it? Thanks so much, Lisa

Hi Lisa:
The first question that I have to ask is why did the PO remove the turbo? Is their something wrong with it? The CT20 turbos that came on these trucks were famous for cracking between the exhaust turbine housing and the wastegate. If you go to this link, post #10 you will see pictures of what I mean.
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f161...r-kind-236892/ If you find that your's is cracked then it is a boat anchor.
If it isn't cracked then you need to check it for side to side and end to end play on the shaft. The turbine shaft shouldn't have any side to side play, but it may have some end to end play do some research on what is considered acceptable before a rebuild. This is a great site for info on the 22RTE and a couple of the moderators have a tremendous amout of knowledge on these engines.

Assuming the PO did not butcher everything when he removed the turbo and the oil feed and coolant lines were removed intact and just blocked off then I believe you will need to re-install the turbo exhaust manifold, Turbo, elbow, oil and coolant lines?
The parts listed below are from http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/.
They are listings for a 1986 Toyota Pick-up, they used to have diagrams, but Toyota flexed their muscles about copyrights and they removed them. Is far as reasonable parts I use these guys.

As far as your wiring problem it sounds like a bad ground. The first thing I would do is find your body grounds remove they and thoroughly clean the connector and contact surface with emery cloth or a wire wheel on a drill. You will find one under each kick panel, one on the back of the engine, your negative battery cable connects to the body as well as the engine block. See if this solves your problem, if it doesn't then the ECU actually gets it's ground from a point in under the top part of the intake manifold. This one is harder to get at to check, hopefully the others will solve your problem and you won't have to touch this!

Hope this helps you out!

Thanks!!

Well PO told me turbo was removed because it was leaking oil around one of the gaskets. I didn't see any cracks in it but i'm going to go over it more carefully and check the play in it also. I have all the hoses and lines still connected as far as i can tell but may just replace them all if said turbo is not just a "boat anchor" lol. Also going to check all the grounds you mentioned for the other problem. Will let you know what i find. Thanks so very much for such a quick reply and great help!! Lisa
