Max miles on a 4Runner

I don't think there is any specific number of miles that you can say an engine will need to be replaced at. Some may be 100K, some may be 300K. It's all in how you take care of it. But since it's a Toyota, it will last you a good long while for sure!

So if I do all the maintenance as recommended by Toyota I should be able to go 300,000 miles? Thats awesome!! Are there people on this forum who have a vehicle with that many miles and still going strong?

My '91 4Runner is almost to 170,000 miles and it's still running great. I'm just hoping that it can last until I can afford a new truck 
But I'm also hoping that it will die soon so that I have an excuse to buy a new one

I just got my '90 a little over a year ago. It has now got about 160,000 miles on it. The engine has run great. I have had to replace a few thing on the truck like a power steering pump, O2 sensor, fan switch and a couple of other piddly stuff. Nothing major. It needs some AC work, and a knock sensor. My trans is going to need a rebuild or something soon. It's been acting up for the past year :rolleyes: but hasn't broke yet. That's descent miles on a tranny, so nothing to complain about. Just hope I have the moolah when the time comes.
Anyways, all in all, I've been very pleased with it. Now just to see how much the AC in going to cost......

My '91 as been the exact same way (and I've had to replace the exact same stuff that you've replaced

I need to get my A/C working too, my guess is that I only need to get it recharged. And I had asked about what I needed to recharge it, and more than likely I'll need to spend like $50 on a conversion kit from r12 (Freon) to r134 (or something similar, forgot the exact name of it ) because it'll cost an arm and a leg to recharge the freon, but if I get the Freon it'll be ice cold and last for like 10 years. So I'm still trying to decide on that

i just crossed the 10,000 marker today...i'm in 5 digit territory now. but yeah i'm thinking my 4runner will last as long as i need it.
does going offroad a lot have a serious detrimental effect on engine life? i heard that somewhere. i know it increases the dust and such that gets to the engine, but if you service it regularly and keep it clean, things should be okay right?

Low miles when I got it...
I bought my 93 Runner with on 14K miles on the ticker in 1995. I have put on about 100,000 since then. Hey, that's under 12K per year for me - amazing since I've taken it to the Outerbanks three times and numerous trips to DC. My wife drives it until mid December when I get it back She'll be stepping into something larger - hopefully a used 1998 Land Cruiser. So, I need to get at least 250-300K out of the 93. Seems to be do-able!

My friend's mechanic had a 4runner that he got a little over 450,000 miles on before he put in a new engine. Like someone said before the life of the car is all relative. You could have one that lasts forever or you could get unlucky and get one that causes problems. It's the same way with any vehicle.

My 88' 4runner has 230,000 miles on it. I just drove it from Oklahoma City to Crested Butte Colorado, Filled with gear. Then I did a full week of off roading in the back country, (not rock crawling). Then drove it back to Oklahoma doing about 75-80 mph.
My truck is completely stock except for the ISR mod. And it is still going strong. I am planning to do an engine swap though. I want to put a deisel engine in it. But I bet I could get another 100,00 if I kept taking care of it.

180ftlbs of torque would be quite fun in a very light dune buggy....

My 92 v6 has 178,xxx mile on it runs great . iv only had it for about 6 mo but the owner before me had replaced the head gasket at about 120k , and the guy who had it before him had it replaced also not sure on the mileage for the first head gasket change. Hope i wont have to replace it again :cry:
