any problems with Paint on newer model Toyota vehicles?

As I may in the market for an 09 4Runner down the road, I've been doing some research over all the popular Toyota forums.

one thing caught my eyes was bunch of FJ owners on Tundra Solutions complained about excessive paint chip happened to their new FJ's. Mainly because:
a.) the newer EPA approved water based paint is less durable than solven based paint.
b.) NO clear coat.

I've seen same thing on other forums but not as specific as that one.

Does the same problem happen to other Toyota vehicles? With the big 3 in trouble, Toyota has less competition to worry about, will the quality go south with it?

p.s. the silver paint on my 99 still shins like hell even i never had it waxed and washed every 3 months.

Well, my '93 Xtra-cab... zero hood chips. My wife's 07 Yaris... tons of hood/bumper chips and it scratches very easily. The paint is very, very thin on the Yaris.
