91 4Runner
So here we go my first post on a forum.
I have a 91 4Runner with 269,xxx on it and the old 3.0 is on its way out. I'm looking into swapping over to a JDM 3.0 turbo diesel or a JDM 3.0 gas. Or I could go with a reman 3.0. Price wise the diesel would be the most expensive. The reman 3.0 would be close 2nd in price and the JDM 3.0 would be the least and possibly the easiest to do. I just need as much info and opinion as I can get.

Do you want the diesel ??
Myself I would not spend the money on another 3.0 Why not a 3.4 Swap.
I have heard of people running into having to swap things on the JDM engines
Although I have no hands on experience with the JDM engines So I could be completely wrong on that.
I would hope the rest of the vehicle is worth spending the money on a engine??

Body wise the 4Runner is rust free and everything else works well on it. I've also heard that you have to swap some parts on the JDMs. Like the EGR and possibly the crank sensor. The diesel would be great just for the MPG. It should get somewhere in the high twenties. I have also thought about the 3.4 swap, but i need more info. Besides it's for my sons first car and really all it needs is good reliability.

We have a nice section on just 3.4 swaps
Anything mechanical will break down at the worst moment.
There are those that hate the 3.0 and others seem to love them.
I would find a local engine shop to just rebuild what you have or just buy another engine and have it done.
Then it comes down to if your doing all this work or paying labor and parts anything other just swapping a engine gets expensive.
Such a pain sorting out problems with a vendor at least one time zone if not several away.
