Exclamation $700 radiator quote from Northridge Toyota?

Just got quoted $700 for a v6 radiator. Ridiculous, even with %25 off that is still beyond outrageous for a water tank with fins!!!

I ordered one from Radiators.com for $180. OEM spec all brass and copper, Lifetime warranty, and get this----I just ordered it less that 2 hours ago and they already delivered it to my work. Now, the distribution center is close by (Socal), but talk about fast service!!! These guys don't mess around.

Will definitely be using them again....hopefully not for another 192,300 miles.

Is it Northridge's fault that an OEM radiator is expensive?
I'm glad you got a decent deal on an aftermarket one, but I don't understand what this has to do with Northridge???

For something like a radiator.. heck a junkyard will do in a pinch (Ask TC about that one and Farmington last year) Stuff like that yes aftermarket is fine, but I am beginning to learn where a Toyota OEM part DOES count...

A Toyota PS pump (USED EVEN) will hands down outlast a re-manned aftermarket pump ANYDAY! (My expereince)

So that is the tough call... when to know to go to Toyota ( and when it comes to an OEM parts, don't go to northridge, go to trdpartsforu.com) (Dallas Toyota) they give TTORA and Yotatech members huge discounts, enough that shipping is nothing!!) or you can try TOP Toyota Offroad Parts.. Shannon Brookshire founder of TTORA works there and has great deals... I think that is his shop name. Look in the vendors section!

Hope that helps!

Yeah I gotta similar quote from my local dealer (the one I work at)
Went to AutoZone, and got one for $178 bucks w/ lifetime
replacement warranty. That to me is well worth not having Toyota
stamped on my radiator somewhere.

My T100 actually has a GM radiator in it

But really dealer prices are high, I often order just as good stuff from aftermarket suppliers and have no issues

Yes thank you! I need to brush up on my vendor knowledge. He's a great guy and will give you a great price with shipping to. So go cancel that northridge order!

Last I checked, Northridge Toyota Performance is a vendor here and gives discounts to yotatech members. When I did my waterpump and checked around their prices were right there with trdparts4u and TOP (all of them were about 1/2 what my local dealership wanted for the same parts). NTP were slightly higher and I went with one of the others who tacked on the shipping afterwards (which was more than expected), with the shipping I would have been better off going with NTP as they are closer and shipping would have been less. The OP is in socal, so with closer and faster shipping NTP is just as good a choice as the others.

Good luck with that aftermarket radiator. You get what you pay for. Consider this:

Your factory radiator lasted you 192,xxx miles. Divide that by (roughly) $700, thats $.0036/mile. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Aftermarket radiators last about 1/10th of the miles and time, if you are lucky. Not to mention, the number of times you will have to re-solder the straps back on.

But you're right, it sure is cheap!

*edit*

FYI im showing prices ranging from $375-$485 at toyotapartsales.com for a factory V6 radiator (using a 1991 model year)

So even at $485, the most expensive one is $485/192300=$.0025 per mile. $485 for a NEW factory radiator that will last me 190 THOUSAND miles? It will outlast the truck!

That's because Toyota oem parts last about twice as long as parts from your local auto store lol! But hey I'm guilty of going cheap on my Yota as well. If I was planning on keeping it for a long time I would probably stick with oem.

The brand I got was 'CSF' and appears to be of similar thickness and quality. It fit perfectly.

Death Cougar--- Solder doesn't really work that well and the spot welds on the new one appear to have more surface area anyway, so I am not too worried.

Besides with regular flushing, even a cheapie will last long enough to justify the (significant) reduced cost.

1800-radiator is the same as radiators.com

What Yotatech discount? I use Dallas TRD parts & never got a discount that I was aware of. Except the time they sent me TWO steering dampeners instead of one(if that counts), I called & they had UPS come & pick it up but I never even got a thanks for being honest....let alone a discount.

DC, at the shop we get ours from radiator man iirc. No one has had issues, including my work truck with 120k on the new rad, the other work truckw ith 80k and the tow trucks that log 500 miles daily..

Cheap crap rads are what break down, not the ones that cost about 200 bones or more.

The reason dealers sell their parts for so much is that most people will never question the cost. Avg Joe will just say "Damn thats expensive" and then just pay it not realizing theres other options. And you havent even mentioned the dealers labor if they install
